not a fan of Saddam: still, he should be kept alive; killing him will serve no purpose, except to satisfy the bloodthirsty.
vengeance is a sign of an uncontrollable mob.
i say: keep Saddam in jail forever... or try him by an international court and then we can debate the fairness...although, it may be too late, if they kill him. |

Well, if Administration officials are correct, then your objections will be moot before the weekend.
And this is good. |

| Looks like he will swing before the New Year. F the Hague. He was fairly tried, he was fairly convicted and he will be fairly hung. It will be a good thing. |

A reporter on CNN said around noon today (Friday) that he will be executed within 36 hours.
I also tend to agree that a trial in the International Court would have been more politically sound. Executing him will make bringing factions together in Iraq just that much more difficult. |

Before 10PM Eastern time is the latest.
They are trying to get it in before the Shia holiday.
Or maybe they give him clemency or a stay in the spirit of the Shia holiday?

I have no problem with the trial and the conviction just as long as others (like Bush and company) face the same destiny. Sure I know that there are some of you that think Bush is not as bad as Saddam, however Saddam is not being hanged for all of his crimes. Bush on the other hand lead a war on false pretenses leading to the deaths of thousands and the dealth toll still mounts.
It's not a fair world, but one can only hope. |

Obituary: Saddam Hussein
"At the height of his personal and military power, Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq with an iron and bloodstained fist.
He gave the appearance to his own people and those in the West of a benevolent personality - a useful influence against the potential hostility of the rest of the oil-producing Arab world.
In 1983 he was shaking the hand of Donald Rumsfeld, then envoy for Ronald Reagan.
The US was then providing Saddam with heavy artillery for his war with Iran and later, as the first Gulf war loomed, he was shaking hands with Kofi Annan.
The notorious leader was executed on Saturday after losing his appeal against the death sentence handed down by an Iraqi tribunal for his role in the execution of 148 Shia villagers in 1982.
A panel of Iraqi judges upheld the tribunal's ruling that Saddam began a revenge campaign after an assassination attempt in the town of Dujail in 1982."
