My perspective:
I'm consistently libertarian, but I part with my libertarian peers on the issues of immigration and health care. I believe that immigration should be restricted due to the twin cancers of religion and nationalism and that the state ought to offer national health insurance but the industry itself be kept private and for-profit.
I believe that religion and nationalism are diseases of the mind, that prove powerful tools to control the dumb. If religion is the opiate of the masses, nationalism is the opiate of the very dumb. Worshiping a flag is absolutely no different than worshiping an imaginary friend (other than, ahem, I can actually see a flag..).
People ought to be free to do as they please, so long as they cause no involuntary harm to others. |
All right why is national a disease and having universal health care that is not-for-profit a disease? I suppose you will say it makes economic sense to have for profit health care.
You are against illegal immigration. Many nationalists who want to protect their cultural heritage share that view. As far as religion, you are stating that someone is ill if they believe in God. That is a relative judgement. It is quite relative, amigo. How can you say it is right or wrong. |
You've misread me. NATIONALISM is a disease. Love of country, flags on backpacks, "these colors don't run", etc etc. If you live in Korea, ask one of your peers about Takishima and watch the sparks fly. Koreans are the perfect example of individual mental illness en masse due to nationalism (but they are hardly alone). Nationalism is a way to control the very, very stupid in a society.
About my idea for health care. I'm borrowing from Jan Narveson, in his book "The Libertarian Idea". In the first edition (though not the 2nd, 3rd etc) he argues that a collectivized health insurance plan is likely best and that if people are left free, how they would likely organize health care. I say, "insurance" to be national but the industry to be private. This because, everything government does ends up being a power grab. Also, the type of people who work in government bureaucracy are the most horrible of power hungry humans. Private enterprise works best, and insurance can mitigate risk.
I don't know why you told me about your troubles getting insurance in America. |

I want to keep muslims out, and I don't really care about Mexican illegal immigration to Canada, America or wherever. I think islam to be a cancer. Do you want evidence?
In a perfect world, we could just shoot all the religious wackos to newly colonized Mars and let them duke it out. As we can't, I'd rather just be separated from the craziest of crazy religious types. |

What are our options for the crazy non-religious-yet-with-strong-beliefs types? |

| Dunno. But people who don't answer to an imaginary friend, or pledge allegiance to a government/race/ethnic group, aren't likely to cause you much harm. |
