Electricity comes form power plants, Coal, Oil and Gas are used to create electricity at power plants, the energy is transmitted losing energy as it is, the net result is still depending on imported oil and using far more of it than when used in Combustion engine.
Lead and Acid pollution.
Nice thought though.
