Oh my gosh, she is adorable. I have already adopted a Jindo mix here in Korea. The vet says he looks like a mix between an Akita and a Jindo. He weighs about 15 kg and is about the size of a sheltie or just a little larger than a bigger beagle. He's not as big as everyone thought he would be from his photos. In Canada, he's a medium sized dog. He plays with a Husky everyday and she is about 10 cm taller than him and she weighs about 25kg.
For the person asking about 'poop' bags, I got mine at EMart. If you go where they sell the bags for making Kimchi or where they sell the ziplock bags, you can find rolls of medium sized bags. They are super cheap. As Indy is a larger dog, a tissue just doesn't cut it. He needs a bigger bag.
Here are some photos of my Indy: He is about 1.3 years old. I have had him for about 9 months now and I am so much happier here in Korea.

Cyrax: Like ucfvgirl says, you can check in Emart near zip-locks, in picnic supplies or near the cellophane noodles. Those are the three main places we check in any Emart we go into. The gloves we get are big and roomy (even for my 5ft 8in son) and cheap 500-700 won for 100 gloves (or 50 sets).
Demonicat: Thanks for the offer dude! Youve got a warm heart! Were not under any time pressure here, and we just put the girls in separate rooms when were gone. This must be what raising a set of teenage girls is like <YIKES> glad I have a boy! Smudge is pretty good with a bone~ as long as she has a bone shell leave your shoes alone. She prefers milk bone to rawhide.
Samatha: Dont sweat it~ if it works out then it does, if not we can wait for the right fit. Youre going to have a lot of adjustments when you get here, so you should do whats right for you first, and if Smudge fits in with that, super, if not, someone will come along. As far as a security pitch though, most folks in Korea are afraid of dogs even the purse puppies- and its crossed my mind more than once that Smudge does make me feel more secure. Shes not a barky dog but her bark is deep & sounds scary. Its too bad for me that Spot just wont get off the princess complex.
** Everyone** thank you so much for all the support and for telling your friends about Smudge. Im pleasantly surprised & gladdened to find the expat community so warm & giving~ Peace & Love to all~ Sunny Days |

ucfvgirl : Such a nice dog.
I see a jindo mix in a parking lot. He has too much energy and keeps jumping over people. I could help the owner with fixing this behaviour because I had trained dogs @ a shelter back home. Its definitely domination that the dog is displaying and I wouldn't be surprised if he bites someone pretty soon. The problem is I don't see his "master" anywhere.
I love the jindo breed very intelligent.
To everyone:
What is your favourite breed?
Mine: English Mastiff though I never saw or met one. . I like the fact that they are laaaaaaaaaaazy but are quite strong and brave when there is danger approaching. |

| I lioke the dalmatian as well as the American bull terrier. Both of them have bad reps, but if raised properly are the sweetest smartest dogs. |

| English Setters hands down are my top dog. I have 2 back home. They are extremely sweet and loyal. Oh yeah, and watching them set and point is a thing of beauty. Good luck finding a home for "Smudge". She is a cute dog.[/img] |

i'd take her in a heartbeat except for my place is too small...
she wouldn't have any place to run around or have fun..
if i know of anyone who is looking for a dog, i will surely let them know about smudge! good job in taking her in and showing her some love! |

Cyrax,
From what I know about Jindo's, they don't usually attack, unless they feel threatened. They are not a 'fighting' kind of dog. So, to be honest, I wouldn't worry about the Jindo in your parking lot attacking. I would be more concerned that the dog is running free and could get injured by a car or something. Jindos are generally quite shy around strangers, so I am surprised that this dog is approaching people on a regular basis. It's too bad that you haven't seen the owner. Maybe it's homeless?
Indy is very cautious around Korean people. I know that he was poorly taken care of by Korean people before I got him. He is especially cautious around men. I seriously believe that he might have been beaten by a Korean man. When he sees other Caucasian people, he goes into super high energy mode. Maybe it's because they don't fear him? I am not sure.
To all of you that commented about Indy, he's a great dog. Still in the learning phases, as he's only one year old, so sometimes he can be a handful. Other times, he's the sweetest thing you've seen.
I really wish I could take Smudge as she looks like a super sweet, well trained dog. Good job Stephanie and your son. (and sorry to type so much on your post). |
