While his adminstration was successful in many areas,

I can't argue with that. Many historians consider James K. Polk the most successful president ever. He set an agenda: absorb Texas and shove the Brits out of the Pacific Northwest. He did that and retired after one term.

Reagan fell asleep during an interview with the Pope. Many said Nancy was the real president. Reagan was successful. However, I deplore the goal of turning the US from a creditor nation to history's largest debtor nation. Reagan suceeded at what he set out to do. So did Jeffrey Dahmler. I never agreed with either one.

What do you expect from a Republican?

I wasn't surprised. Who else does he have to nominate for the honor? Taft? Coolidge? Hoover? Bush? Republican presidents of Ford's lifetime are not exactly an honor role of American history.

And actually, Ike was not a real Republican. The first time he voted was when he voted for himself. (And I totally agree that professional military people should be non-political. I'm not criticizing him for that.) Ike was given the presidency as a reward for his leadership in the war, just like Wm. Henry Harrison, Zachery Taylor and US Grant. And Washington for that matter, but in his case it was deserved and the country benefited immensely.

b) I'm going to overlook the use of the word 'fatal' as an innocent Freudian slip. Wink
