Great thread.
A fairly common one in university: stealing books and selling them, or even finding receipts and using them.
A guy I met in Vancouver taught at an ESL school for an awful Korean boss who hired models to act as teachers for a video advertising his school to prospective students. His school was doing well, mostly Korean students.

my two favorite scams

*update* this is the actual story here but pics of the pppowerbook are on that original site.

that one is awesome because it's scamming a scammer.
the other one was put out by SCAM! 'zine in the early 90s. the idea was buy a 24 pack of sodapop. photocopy the UPC code onto stickers, and then paste those on 24 packs of beer.
the checker at walmart is going to be so not interested in what you're buying that they'll just beep it through, and you'll be on your way to drunkania and then bosnia-hangoveria in no time.
once again, a scammer scamming a scammer. |
