| I saw a pretty funny one where the guy did a wheelie, and flipped. Amazingly he seemed ok, and as he had jumped a red light(zebra crossing) he didn't hit anyone with his bike. The bike went on down the road way far ahead of where he landed. |

The lads and I have a saying about our bikes here in Daegu. You are one of two riders, one who has been in an accident, or one who is going to get into an accident.
Don't kid yourself for a second here folks, Korea is damn dangerous on the bike! I got in 3 accidents, one somewhat serious. I know people who have been hospitalized for up to six months and sadly I know someone who has even died.
Kids ride bikes in Korea. They steal them too! My street has had so many kids ripping up and down on the bikes in the last few weeks its been ridiculous. Since my bike has been parked, and locked, the attempts of stealing it have gone through the roof. They even took off the gas cap to steal the fuel, the little pecker heads.
I once saw three highschool kids on a 125 waiting to get acrosss a big intersection. On the other side was a f-ing useless cop who let them pass right by him, even though they ran a red and had no helmets on! Its times like that when I truly think Korean law is a joke.

the saying is "those that have been down and those that will"
and I didn't know a helmet was required in korea. I've seen plenty of people without them.
I've been here a year been hit while in the car and my wife has been in an accident as well, haven't been in anything on the scoot.
I'm a firm believer that if you actually pay attention and PREDICT (like you are taught) you can avoid just about any accident on a bike. i.e. better brakes, better accerleration, better turning potential.
and F a cop, they can't catch you if you're on a bike. Lose em in traffic, just like in the states! |
