I have a 1 GB Iriver. Got it in Mid September 2005. It's still kicking, but the ear phones died. I don't think i've ever filled it up with songs before though |

Good luck. The beautiful thing about the iPod is that it works. There's no "movie mode" that you have to enable. All you do is select the title and it plays. Easy. It also holds a ton. 30-80GB. I couldn't imagine spending 200 for a p.o.s korean player when a Nano is around the same price or the regular iPod is just 100 more.
With MP3 players, you ALWAYS get what you pay for. True with most technology..
I hope you are able to figure it all out. I couldn't imagine a subway ride without my music or movies! |

Until they discontinued their hard drive series, the iRiver HD brand (Korean) mp3 players were technically superior to ipods. They had better DAC chips, better screens, colour first, movies first, and had extras like USBOTG, FM radio, voice recording....
But, sadly, iRiver is concentrating on Flash based players that just dont have enough capacity for my needs.

Ok, so you're saying that a company had a product superior to the iPod, but they discontinued it? Sounds like a winning business strategy to me. |

I got an LG 1GB MP3 and I can play the songs on computer which a friend put on it but not the actual unit itself portably!!It's got,like 6 buttons but whenever I turn it on it turns off again.
Battery indicates full.
Funnily,the Chinese teacher has the same problem with his(different brand)
Anybody have any ideas? |

I got my wife a 1 gb sandsk for christmas based on recs from amazon and its crap imho, hard to d/l sounds using either windows media player or realplayer, some cds wont transfer etc. A real pain to set up
now I have a 3 year old rio cali player which i put in a 1gb chip in addition to the 256mb on it and I love it, the software that came with it makes transfers easy. I can put around 250 songs on it in all formats. its also very rugged which makes it great for the gym or the beach.
Problem is it is getting old and the button is starting to wear so I'm thinking of getting something new but rio doesnt make one similar to the one I have now |

I think the iAudio X5 has many advantages over the iPod, but only if the extra functions suit your needs.

iPods are very good, I own one and use it every day. However there are other players that offer more functions. As usual, extra functions come with tradeoffs, in terms of size, and a more complex interface.
iPods have gone for a simple interface, and few functions.
Both the iPod and the iAudio support Rockbox, and alternate opensource firmware that offers significantly more functionality....
