me too...but that was back in the late 90s.
Tuition has ALmost doubled at the (admittedly) private uni where I got my science degree. As for my education degree, it's only increased (since 2000) by a grand.

Do you think they might even go for a refund? I'd be first in line......
Maybe a money back guarantee is in order when a percent of uni. grads believe Joan of Arc was married to Noah.
There is also the option of pursuing education rather than schooling. But then you would have a lot of house parties and other enlightening stuff.
I might suggest to these protestors, to take a few courses where I've often gone - MIT. http://ocw.mit.edu All the free courses you could dream of and many with live video feed.

Oh how I laugh at the suckers in the land of the fee.
I'd like to move to Germany or maybe one of the Scandinavian nations.
Tuition isn't terrible yet in Canada. A lot of the people with extreme debt have wasted too much time or wasted too much money. I was excluded from students loans for two years because my parents made too much money. However, my parents were willing to help but I wasn't getting a free ride. I worked my ass of in the bush of BC and always earned enough to cover the majority of a years expense.
Anyone could go treeplanting, brushcutting, or forest fire fighting in the summer and save 15,000-20,000 grand iin 4 months. However, too many people want to stay in Vancouver or wherever else, making minimum wage, partying, and complaining.
That being said, there are a lot of people that will be left behind by rising tuition fees. There needs to be more in place for those that truly need it. Children from low-income families or single parent/income familiesneed more grants and lower interest. Single mothers need caretaker allowance, grants and reduced tuition.
Many people think that protestors are only doing it for themselves. However, many people do it for the people who need it. A larger voice will make sure that the small minority that are in need can be heard. I lived fine through university, I worked hard, and I had parents who supported me. I left 6,000 in debt and paid that off. Not everyone else is so fortunate. |

Have you ever done the tree planting? I've never but what I've heard is you're basically in the middle of nowhere for months on end. There's nothing to do during your time off other than gamble, drink, buy drugs, and have sex with a different person every night. People end up blowing large amounts of their money to numb the pain. |

No I did brush cutting. We go into the areas after they've planted and clean up the underbrush giving seedlings a better chance at survival. Like anything, it depends on your priorities. You can be out in the middle of nowhere for periods of time...but it's a means to an end, not a career. I just think about money the entire time I'm doing it because the harder you work to more money you make. I don't know where you got your description from. There's a lot of pot around...but that's about it and it's basically like water in the BC southern interior. Some of the lifers would drink a lot...but wouldn't you if you were a lifer. The majority were young people who were saving up cash towards their goals. I could average $1000 a week doing it and the best day I ever had as $450. |

Uhh, I think MM2 may have made a slight error there. He said "person" but he meant "moose". A different moose every night. But hey, after all that boozing & drugging, nobody can tell, nobody cares. After a while, relationships tend to become shallow, meaningless, and before you know it, one moose looks as hot as the next. |
