For a rather brief time America did have nuclear supremacy. It also had troops in most of the nations on the face of the earth that mattered. It did a curious thing I can't imagine many countries doing. America gave it all back and left development money.
That's a hell of a great America I admire. I hope America hasn't lost that. |

And this raises a good afterthought.
What if America had taken all the monies she threw at Iraq and used that in many regions around the world, in developmental projects, in developing trade and commerce, as loans and finance. What if? How much more influence would America have in the world? Sure, a few big wigs would be out some cash and Lockheed and brothers would have to create another crisis/scenario to garner trillions for their own megaprojects. But how much better wouldn't it be.
Not to mention, the young American lives saved. Safe at home with their families.
America with brains is an America I can admire. Where values are not rashly militarized and dollarized but thought out and put into life giving action.

We (I) don't need your approval. Had the insurgency been short-lived all the doomsayers would now be singing another tune about Iraq. Let's not forget rather conveniently that the Kurds and southern Shiites are a heck of a lot better off without Saddam. Ironically, so are a lot of Iranians.
I wonder: has any other nation than America entered into warfare in the past hundred years partly if not mostly for altruistic reasons?
Maybe Colin Powell was right: all we ever asked for was a place to bury our dead. That singular thought even shut up the European leftists at the conference where he uttered it. |
