Capoeira seems to be the choice martial art for hot young woman in the States.

A good TaiChi school is something to look into but are hard to find. Hsing-I/Xing-yi and Bagua/pakua are good if you are looking for internal styles like TaiChi.

So maybe John F was talking about another form of Brazillian he said he'd been doing for awhile now...not sure because the connection was not that great and there was a lot of background noise when I was talking to him. I guess I can update the thread after I hear from him via email...etc

I don't think Jet Li is getting his due here. All three contenders excel in different ways. Bruce Lee is awe-inspiring and ferocious. Jackie Chan makes combat look like a ballet, and Jet Li can actually act (as well as get pretty aggro.) I love watching all of them for different reasons.

im with kermo, jet-li needs some props for sho.
now if i were to rate them strictly on a physical superficial level, jet li wins again, he's super-cute. if we opened this up to everyone in the martial arts world, well then, it's got to be leroy.

Capoeira's the toughest martial art I've ever tried (and I've done judo, karate, taekwondo, and muay thai. And no, I'm not particularly good at any of them.). Why? Because you can be a little overweight, and still get by in the other martial arts I've mentioned. Not so with Capoeira, because it demands so much acrobatic ability. I gained some weight (and lost it since) and capoeira became much more difficult. In my school, the basic warm-up exercise was doing cartwheels from one wall to the other. Ever seen capoeirists? They're all very lean.

Bruce Lee is best overall.

Donnie Yen is the best on-screen martial artist alive right now.

In terms of sheer athletic ability, Tony Jaa is pretty amazing.

I'm a 31 inch waist and 6 feet tall. No fat whatsoever...but I could stand to gain some muscle/strength/stamina all around.

Maybe like these guys!

I'm surprised no one mentioned Sonny Chiba from the "Streetfighter" trilogies. I think he could kick Bruce Lee's ass in a NY minute.

For all-around skill and determination, Bruce, hands down.

Jackie Chan is and was more of a performer, and he'd be the first to admit it.

Jet Li is deadly in real life, but if you want to know who the real master is?

Judo Gene Lebell. Sparred with Bruce and famously choked out a very full-of-himself Steven Seagal some time ago. Here's the link:

Gene Lebell is very good, but you forget the Machados and the unbeatable judo Gracie family. Bruce Lee was definitely one of the best. I don't know if Lebell was better. Bruce was very, very, very fast and had muscles upon muscles, and he studied so many different arts and inspired his students to do so, and he was a fan of Zen. One of the most famous styles of Gung Fu is Shaolin. That wasn't the kind Bruce Lee studied. Shaolin uses more kicking than what Bruce studied initially. From what you described of your body type, you might be suitable for the Crane. All types are good, though. I am not studying Kung Fu at the moment, but I know it can take a lot out of you when you study Kung Fu. You definitely suffer to learn.

Just heard from John F. He said it's Brazillian JuJitsu that he teaches. I'm going to go with that. BTW if anyone is interested in training with us, he teaches at Yonsei university and in Apkujong.

Peace out

I vote for Jackie Chan. I don't care how he is in a street fight. Anyone willing to crawl through hot coals for my personal entertainment is all right by me.
