You can change the partition size live.

Create two partitions one about 1gb for a Linux swap file (select linux swap file for partition type). The other however big you want you Linux drive to be - formatted as Ext2 is the best.

Running the live CD of Ubuntu when you go to install it will find the drives ready and waiting for it. No loss of data due to moving partitions.

Acronis has a nice boot loader as well, comes with the Disk Director Suite. You could use grub which comes with Linuz as well.

Acronis is nice and easy and gives you access to the Disk Director Suite if anything goes wrong without having to access an operating system.

I will most likely get called out on this choice from pure Linux fans but for a newbie it worked for me.

Cool stuff.

Been on a biz trip so haven't had a chance to try anything yet. I'd never heard of mint but I'll give it a go.

All I need is firefox, a bittorrent tracker, and VLC media player.

The computer is seriously almost toast. I'll give it a try soon.
