Cheesy as hell that not only were all three stories linked by theme and also by the gun, but they ALL FOLLOWED THE SAME DRAMATIC CURVE AS WELL!
NOT ONLY THAT BUT THEY ALL HAPPEN OVER THE SAME TIME FRAME!
Would have been nice for one of the stories at least to have taken place a long time after or before the Brad&Gweneth and their childminders stories (the two most likely to happen synchronistically.)
It's like something an A levels film student would think up.
To convenient. The theme too pervasive (each main character gets 'lost' and is misunderstood.) too heavy handed.
And then for them all to follow the same dramatic curve....
Unsubtle.
I liked the end though. Too obvious for her to jump off. I liked the fact that they didn't sell out by going along the lines of - 'if we save her, people will thinks it's a cop out / we're not cynical enough so we'll go with the suicide' - thus conforming to public expectation.
The director's '21 Grams' is a lot better.
I liked it upon first viewing as a nice contrast to the shite that's been released recently. I like the cinematography and the editing. Nice pacing also.
Just falls apart and dissapoints slightly when you think about the things I mention above...
Hey, anyone see any holes in my logic, please point them out, I'd like to be proven wrong about this film actually.... |

I think movie goers in Japan are wondering the same thing
Moviegoers warned of `Babel' sickness
TOKYO - The Japanese distributor of "Babel" is warning audiences the movie may cause nausea or headaches.
Gaga Communications has received 15 complaints since the film, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, opened Saturday in theaters throughout the country, company spokeswoman Aimi Ichikawa said Wednesday.
Ichikawa said the company was investigating which scenes caused the illnesses, and hasn't ordered theaters to adjust sound or lighting.
The problem of nausea or headaches has only been reported in Japan, she said.
Some 300 theaters nationwide posted a note Tuesday saying "Babel" contains scenes with strong effects and that some viewers felt sick after seeing them, according to a company news release.
Gaga Communications also ran ads with a warning in major newspapers Wednesday.
"Babel," directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, depicts a saga of families on three continents linked by tragic events in the African desert.
The film was highly anticipated in Japan after Rinko Kikuchi received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. Kikuchi, 26, played a deaf and frustrated Tokyo schoolgirl.
"Babel," released by Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Vantage, received seven Oscar nominations. It won the Oscar for best original score. |

| Babel is like that movie The English Patient--both got turned off after about 10 minutes. Boring as feck. |

How old was that deaf Japanese girl?
I was surprised to see her snatch onthe big screen. They don't even allow that in the porn here! |
I didn't see the movie, but I am curious. What did she snatch?

That's interesting. I found some of it extremely moving. As I put myself in the predicament of some of the characters, the arab boys' father for instance (who must have felt the most soul burning guilt at having provided his boys with a gun), or the unfortunate Mexican woman (whose life was horribly turned upside down), I felt very sad indeed.
Dare I suggest that perhaps you're used to having a schmaltzy Hollywood music track accompanying your films, telling you when to get teary. |

My attention, which was quickly followed by an elbow to the ribs from my girlfriend sitting next to me. |

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!
The only hole I saw in the film's logic was when the police officer said to the father, "I'm sorry to hear your wife jumped to her death from your balcony." And the father goes, "Hey, my wife shot herself. I've already been cleared. Don't harrass me."
Like anyone is going to describe the cause of suicidal death when they express their condolences. Ridiculous, forced exposition. By the way. Women almost never shoot themselves. The father did it. |
