Ulsanchris: You have a decision to make...leave now and forfeit a months pay, letter of release, lose your work reference/ accomodation suddenly, and have to look for a new job , probably in a new country:-or,
2) stay on in faith that they'll pay you when they can. Most hogwons are having cashflow problems right now, and are late with payments etc. Not all directors are out to rip you off,- its the korean way to be patient and commited at work until they can pay. Cut some slack?
Hard choice to make, but if you hang on and on without getting paid you could also be setting yourself up for a major dissapointment. Depends on how well you know your director and your overall options.
My advice: be patient, ask for a clear date to expect payment, and then stick to that..
CHI-Chi,- it obviously couldn't have happened at a worse time...you should be able to order new copies from your uni, fairly cheaply...they'll probably take up to a month... How about having yourself a holiday in the meantime??? |

I figure that I am not going to just suddenly walk out but I think i will turn in a written one month notice that I am going to quit. Do things legally. Yeah I may be a bit naive.
I don't think sticking it out is that good of an idead. This hakwan has being going down hill since before I got here (April and I don't see that this descent will stop. The place has a lot of things wrong with it. Just one example is that four korean teachers have come and gone since i got here. We are now on number 5 and my first impression of her wasn't that great. I also told her that the old korean teacher's pay was late (don't know if she has even got it yet) and that my pay is late. She might not be so eager to work here anymore. Korean teacher number six might be on the way.
So now I will have to look up elflaw and see just what I am supposed to do with my written notice.
I think the mods should make a sticky of things people should do if they don't get paid and/or intend to quit their jobs. Just a thought. |

Some good news folks. I checked out my bank account and I got paid. However my boss wasn't around after work (which is usual) so I couldn't talk to him. |
