Obviously I have hit a nerve by suggesting that Bobby do something charitable with some of the money he's earned. Denial, displacement and defense mechanisms have come out in full flourish!

bucheon bum, ajgeddes, jinju and freethought, great work on reinforcing and rationalizing conspicous consumption!

Sorry, I didn't mean to upset anyone's self-absorbed narcissism.

Hmmmm... you are against consumption? In your opinion though, isnt consumption of 7 year olds for porn and rape just fine and dandy? or is it the sale?

conspicuous. strong word there. do you not admit that spending money while traveling contributes to a country's development?

Perhaps people would have been more receptive to your suggetions had you not said:

So holier than thou, what have YOU done while abroad besides teaching bratty korean kids?

Dear Bobby,

Here is an idea which may not have occured to you.

Rather than spending your money and time (and personal worth) on ostentatious consumption

--how about doing something charitable with the money!?

Just have a look at a map; excepting Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Brunei, just about every single destination you could reach by air in eight hours or less is a seriously third-world country.

Excluding airfare, the amount of money you mention having available for your holiday is about what average families will make in a whole year --nevermind the lower-class majority.

You are evidently a person of wealth, skill and knowledge; how about putting some of your financial and personal assets to GOOD use? How about some charity work?

How about setting up an affordable educational institute? You could hire a few local teachers and still have enough for renting or constructing the teaching space, and maybe even a bit at the end to donate supplies to your institute.

Nah --forget it; just blow it all self-indulgently like everyone else does.

Yours truly,
Ari

OK. A control freak is someone who tells friends and family what to do. what is it when you tell absolute strangers what to do? Oh yeah. Freak!
