Is it worth just to stay around Cebu and not hit an island? I will arrive on Cebu early Tuesday morning and leave Friday afternoon. Can I just hit a beach on Cebu without heading to an island? I need my nightlife.

Any place with a beach (with the exception of the Hadsan resort) in the vicinity of Cebu CITY will be expensive (US$100+ per night).

Are you only there for 4 days / 3 nights, then it won't matter. Maribago, the Hilton or Shangri-la will fill the bill.

What budget and what nightlife are you talking about and I could give you some better advice. If you prefer something a little more discrete in the way of advice you can PM me.

Damn, $100 a night is too steep, perhaps around $50? And the type of nightlife I like is karaoke BARS, not karaoke box like in Korea. I'm talking about the type of karaoke bar in which ONE person sings in front of a whole bunch of OTHERS with whom that person did not enter with.

I guess I could hit an island if the nightlife and prices are right.

If you want cheap you have to go away from Cebu city.

All the beach resorts around Cebu city are on the east side of Mactan Island (Cebu airport).

Videoke / karaoke are all over the place in the Philippines. It's hard to walk down the street and not find 10 or 20.

The BEST option for cheap AND beaches is Bohol. This is a pain because you need an extra 1/2 day each way for travel. There is nightlife available.

Next best option (in your price range) is a hotel like the Bella Vista and catch a cab out to the beach for your beach fun and back into town for your nightlife.

Next best is a pension (lower cost / downscale) like Golden Peak by Ayalla mall and again take a taxi out to the beach. You are within walking distance to the mall (western restaurants / night clubs) and nightlife.

You can also get a hotel downtown like the Cebu Century Hotel. Rates are around $20 per night. Video (2.9MB, 1:21 long.) here: http://www.bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com/videos/room_326.wmv

There are some nice beaches south of the city that are within an hour commute of the pension.

If you want a local guide I can make a recommendation / referral. It'll cost about 10,000 won per DAY + meals and expenses (eg: entry fees at the beach or tour spots) for as long as you want a guide. A guide will also keep you from getting ripped off on overpriced stuff.
