Can't you say the same thing about Jessica Lynch, the famous POW that was lauded by the administration?

Uh, no, you shouldn't (sources: Wikipedia, MSNBC archives):

Quote:
On August 27, 2003, Lynch was given a medical honorable discharge. An authorized biography, written by Rick Bragg, was released in November 2003. NBC made a television movie called Saving Jessica Lynch which was about Mohammed's account of him rescuing Lynch.

Lynch is a sophomore student at West Virginia University's Parkersburg campus, on a full scholarship because of her military service.

Months after returning, Lynch finally began speaking to the public. Her statements tended to be sharply critical of the original story presented by the Pentagon. When asked about her hero status, "That wasn't me. I'm not about to take credit for something I didn't do ... I'm just a survivor."

She denied the claims that she fought until being wounded, reporting that her weapon jammed immediately, and that she could not have done anything anyway. Interviewed with Diane Sawyer, Lynch stated, concerning the Pentagon: "They used me to symbolize all this stuff. It's wrong. I don't know why they filmed [my rescue] or why they say these things". She also stated "I did not shoot, not a round, nothing. I went down praying to my knees. And that's the last I remember." She reported excellent treatment in Iraq, and that one person in the hospital even sang to her to help her feel at home.

An NBC TV movie depicting Lynch's ambush and rescue, Saving Jessica Lynch, was aired in the U.S. on November 9, 2003, starring Laura Regan as Lynch. In an interview published in the August 15, 2005 Time magazine, Lynch stated that she saw some of it, but that the inaccuracies in it upset her enough so, that she did not finish watching all of it.

The book was written (not at her behest) and after she was discharged from the service. Got it?

And if you'd bother to check, I've started some threads that can hardly be characterized as right-wing.

Now run along, Susie.

Lynch apparently agrees with Johnson and Hernandez that Miller was the hero of the whole operation. Does her $1 million book deal and television movie bother Miller? "Mmm, somewhat," he answers. "But I don't want to get all into that." Would he turn down a $1 million book deal? "Oh no, I'd have to think about it," he laughs.

Lynch and Bragg will split a $1 million advance for the book, which will have a first printing of about 500,000 copies.

You don't get it, Susie. She got hal a million dollars for a book about her experience as a prisoner of war. So what if it was after she was discharged?

And I'm not saying that she didn't deserve it. She did. At least as much as the Brits, maybe more. Hell, with your kind of silliness, CMH winner Audie Murphy couldn't have written his book.

And when was your military service, Susie? Not that you need any to be critical, it just adds to your credibility.

LMAO! Stevie in the army? Give me a break, his father served so he doesn't have to, but he can certainly mouth off about things he has no idea about!

gypsyfish:

The indignation that the families of the Brits who died in a field of combat operations was mainly over the fact that THEY ARE STILL ON ACTIVE DUTY and had just returned to native soil.

Moreover, other Brits are angry at the remarks made by one upon his return criticizing attitudes toward the Iranian government and for cracking under such pressure. I'm just echoing these sentiments.

So, Susie, go stick your head in some drying concrete.

Octavius bushwhacked:

Father was a decorated Marine in the South Pacific, at Guadalcanal and Tarawa, moved from flying a F4U Corsair with the Black Sheep Squadron when his height made it dicey for him to close his canopy safely. He also served in the Air Force for 30 years, was on the crew for the NATO commander in Europe in the 1960s and on the first repair crew of the new Northwest Airlines in the 1950s. He also served twice in Vietnam.

I served in the Air Force in the 1970s as a volunteer.

Your father, on the other hand, was a drag queen--a tradition you uphold.

Well the MoD have stepped in

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6538921.stm

Quote:
The Ministry of Defence has banned personnel from selling their stories to the media until a review of the rules governing the issue is completed.

Quote:
The handling of events has been criticised by opposition MPs, who say Mr Browne acted too late and lost public sympathy for the captured crew.

The crew are starting to come over as contestants on Pop Idol.
Wonder if any more Brits will stray into the Iranian waters in search of a six figure kiss n tell from the press.

They came back with their dignity, have they just sold it?

What's to address? I've already said that they should have the right to write books (or have them ghostwritten). Just like the families soldiers who have been killed and other Brits can be disgusted, complain, and not buy the books.

I hope, in the same situation, I would have acted differently. I'm reminded of the Italian (I think) journalist who said something to the effect that he would show how an Italian dies before his captors cut his throat. I'm not sure I could pull that one off.

It goes back to your OP, where's the honor of sniping at people you don't know and circumstances that you haven't been in? I don't care for the condescending, know-it-all attitude.
