Take a look at a map, pick some sections of the city near the middle of Seoul, then try to find a place close to public transport...I lived in Apkujeong, about a 2 minute walk from Apkujeong Station, maybe 5 minutes from Hyundai Department Store...I could take a subway, bus, or taxi within minutes of my apartment door. If traffic was light, I could be just about anywhere in the city by taxi or bus in 30 minutes, or a little longer by subway if traffic was stuck (line transfers slow you down).

I also lived in Mokdong, near Mokdong O-gari and the subway station -- again, if you are close to a subway station or a busy intersection (for lots of taxis), you are fine no matter where it is...and getting a taxi home OUT of Itaewon only seems to be a problem between 2 and 4 am...so either leave earlier or plan on staying later....
