So on the one hand in America, we have a case like this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/file_on_4/4246089.stm
"It hears from a Canadian man called Maher Arar, who was stopped by US officials when travelling through New York's JFK airport in September 2002 and sent to Syria where he was held for a year. He says he was brutally tortured.
The reason for his arrest was information passed to the US by Canada, linking him to a terrorist suspect in Ottawa.
.... No legal charges have ever been brought against him in either country. In Canada, where his case has caused a political outcry, a public inquiry is under way."
On the other hand, we have the Posada Carilles case. According to http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/04/22/opinion/edherrera.php "declassified Central Intelligence Agency documents indicate that his role has long been accepted as fact. Instead, he faces charges of immigration fraud, a travesty that could be equaled only by charging Osama bin Laden with entering and leaving Pakistan without a visa." So people could be forgiven for accusing the US of being severely selective of when they choose to respect the letter of the law. What makes the IHT piece so misleading, though, is that this is never mentioned:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/caribbean/news/story/2006/09/060913_posada.shtml
"Mr Posada Carriles was twice acquitted by courts in Venezuela of plotting to bomb the plane." |

The US messed up in is case. From what I hear he will be compensated by the Canadian govt as he should be. I hope the US govt compensates him too.
But I will put it this way.
Al Qaeda are military targets, they are not just a matter for the justice department.
The US is in a war.
The Poseda case is a matter from the justice department.
But Al Qaeda is national security issue.
They are two different situations from the US view anyway. |

Here's why practices like extraordinary rendition, even if they sometimes produce valuable intelligence (and they probably do), are ultimately not in the US' interests: you're not gonna beat terrorism militarily. The solution is through intelligence. You need the cooperation of other countries, especially Middle Eastern ones. Any Middle Eastern government that cooperates with the US is taking a big risk. If American credibility gets lowered through practices like extraordinary rendition, that cooperation the US so badly needs becomes less and less feasible for the Middle Eastern governments. What this administration seems to have no understanding of is how valuable American credibility is. |

And what does that have to do with the Bush's cabal's CIA terrorist buddies? I fail to see the connection Joo.
If i didn't know any better i'd say you were trying to shift the focus here, change the discussion altogether. Hmmmmm ...
Please connect the dots. |

the connection is that disinformation to help the enemy and enemy propaganda ( which is essentially what your posts are ) is not useful advice during a during a conflict.
Jeff Rense and those like him wish to see the US government weakened or destroyed so they can come to power. |
