OK, OK. I put a caculator to a receipt, and you were right. The sales tax IS included in the shelf price.
But they have a subtotal at the bottom. Then they print the sales tax. And then they finally print the total price. So, to someone used to the sales tax in the States, it sure looks like they are adding the sales tax onto the base price. But, in fact, the sales tax is built into the posted price, which they then subtract out when they tally the stuff on the receipt, then they add it back in at the end.
Kinda novel to have such honesty in advertising.
Thanks for straightening me out.
I rest my case.

You guys are awesome and amusing and very helpful.
Buy decent quality laptop here for simplicity's sake that works in the 200+ voltage range. Find a decent techno shop like Radio Shack (Haha..I live in hillbilly valley...which probably explains a lot...) to get a decent prong (adapter plug?) that goes to a two prong round plug to stick into the thing my mommy told me never to put a fork into (even though the sparks that makes is PRETTY), make sure it has ethernet capability (which...when I last bought a computer was a big deal but apparently isn't anymore)...
... And be grateful about not having to worry about mentally adding sales tax while I'm across the world.
Deal!
Thanks, that helps! |

Buy the travel kit at Wal-Mart. It will probably be cheaper than Radio Shack and you'll have the adapters for other countries. |
