Personally I hope that Pyeongchang doesn't get the games.
I think that the unsporting nature and xenophobia that prevails in Korea flies in the face of what it is the Olympics stand for.
Despite having two enormous international events in the past 20 years, visitors here are still faced with problems which have more in common with third world countries ("Global" ATM's, Internet booking problems etc), than with the carefully constructed image of Korea Sparking.
It seems that rather than using these type of things to springboard their country onto the world stage, Korea prefers to use the opportunity to project an unrealistic image of themselves to the rest of the world before giving each other a pat on the back for being "globalists" |
Seconded. |
Thirded. But by the sounds of things, we're going to be sorely disappointed.
I don't know what it is. When I see Korean baseball players get humiliated in the States I really feel bad for them. It hurts. BUT, I also hate seeing Koreans do well at sports because of all the crap that the media/netizens attach to it. |

Hmm. Looking at the calendar... I think I got a few free days coming up that year. What the hell, I'll host 'em.
Go, Pyeongchang(dong)! |

I'll go out on a limb & state I think Pyeongchang's gonna get it.
Korea has proven before it can put together the infrastructure for this kind of thing -- it would be a safe, noncontentious, & well-produced event.
Not that I care that much about the winter olympics (nor does the world at large) but it would be a nice bit of prestige & promotion for Gangwondo. |

I would hope that landing an Olympic bid would do for Korea what it has done for parts of China. Get them to sit up straight, keep their elbows off the table, etc.
From what I've read and heard, there were some major social changes that occurred nearly overnight before the '88 games. Korea's about due for another Matrix-style uploading of global manners, i.e. "I know pedestrian etiquette." |
I didn't see a lot of that in 2002. Yeah, they tried to put on a good face, but there were plenty of cracks to be seen. |

Korea narrowly lost out to Vancouver and played up to the emotions of "We have a divided country BS, please help us!" Never mind that most Koreans don't actually want unification. That coupled with the complete lack of facilities as well.
However, I am sure they could pull it off if given the opportunity so my money would be on them. Traditionally countries that narrowly lose the previous bid are given the next games. |

I'd like to see Russia get the games.
Here's a country that's growing like crazy because it's turning capitalist.
If they got the Olympics, it would be a good way to encourage them to stay the course they're on. |

I guess the Tokyo bid commitee is happy now and will probably bid for the 2016 summer game. Also, the guys in Busan may now consider a serious bid for 2016.
The Olympics are run by Euros and only Europe can get summer and winter games back to back. |
