Most likely they won't have power outlets in eco. Depends on the airline and plane though. My KE74 didn't have them...since it was an older 747. I would try the sleeping pills method...in moderation of course.

You might look into buying a good set of noise canceling headphones. I haven't seen them here at a reasonable price.
I have a couple pairs of the 32decibel earplugs. Noise canceling headphones? You mean the battery operated kind for hunting? I guess I need to stop by the walmart. How many decibels should it be? The 32 ones doesn't really help me out, because I can still make out what people are saying.

The kind I'm talking about are sold in the electronics section and not the hunting section of Wal-Mart. I would read reviews online before buying a brand. ANC is where a computer chip predicts the waveform and produces an opposite waveform to cancel the noise. It works best on constant lower frequency noises like aircraft noise. They aren't designed for hearing protection but rather to make your music or DVD sound better.

The shooting headphones are regular ear protection headphones with mics on the outside, a special amplifier, and speakers on the inside. This lets you hear people talking around you, but really loud noises like gunshots are muted. Shooting headphones with the electronics turned off will act
just like regular hearing protection ear muffs.

Weren't you supposed to be here three months ago?
Yea, but I was really paranoid reading all these nightmare/horror stories. And then I even went through, should I even come stage. After talking to someone fleeing Korea. Well, that's a whole different story, long too. Anyways, I only wanted to work for a certain public school system, and I finally got what I wanted.

I turn my watch to Korea time and start from that. So if that means drinking caffeine to say awake I do it. If it means drugging myself and putting in earplugs to sleep, I do it.

To entertain myself: a good book with my Ipod.

Changing my sleep patterns is much easier after I quit using caffeine.

Thanks all for the replies, but wondering if they will they let me take sealed beef jerkey as a carryon?

My travel agent said that my 2 checked bags will directly go to Korea on their own. So, I hope I don't have to be searched at Detroit and Tokyo/Narita. Just Austin and Seoul. I haven't flew internationally in decades.

Do I just find my 2 checked luggages and leave once I arrive at Seoul ICN, or is it a lengthier process? My school is picking me up and they are asking if my arrival time is the time I can leave the airport.

Once you arrive at Incheon, you'll go to passport control/immigration. Once you're through, you go to pick up your luggage. Then you'll go through customs, where, you usually just walk right through without being stopped. It'll probably be at least 30 minutes, maybe an hour, before you get through all that stuff, depending on how many other flights are arriving at the same time/how busy it is.

Sometimes you can buy bottled water after going through security. Then you can take it on the flight with you. I struck up a conversation with a guy during my layover in San Francisco. We had our seats changed so we could sit next to each other on the flight to Seoul. It made the flight go by more quickly.

I brought all kinds of things to keep me entertained on the flight. Books to read, books to study Korean, but once they dimmed the overhead lights I couldn't concentrate and ended up sleeping a LOT and watched about 5 movies. I left sometime early morning, I think around 7, and technically arrived the next day about 6 in the evening. By the time I got to my apartment I went straight to bed with an OTC sleeping pill just in case and woke up at 7 am the next morning feeling fine. For the next few days I would take an OTC pill at night and felt fine every day.

I don't mind the 3 hour flights around Asia, but these 10 - 12 hour flights back to Canada and Australia are torturous - especially in economy.

Moderation always is a good idea but once you pop you can't stop. Keep away from the free wine as well. I once ended up with a bruise the length of my forarm when i forgot I had taken some on a plane to Sydney and drank four of five bottles of wine. Fell flat on my face on the plane and cracked my arm on an arm rest.

I just flew Korea Air to the US and back. They have video-on-demand. Much better than United last year, which forced me to watch Mission Impossible 3 twice. A nice thing about the legality of sex and age discrimination in Korea is that flight attendants on Korea Air are consistently beautiful (and made to dress like dolls).

I just flew Korean Air too and I was pissed to sit and watch the commericals about how all their airlines had video-on-demand for economy. Oh, really? Instead I had to watch a movie about a Christ-like Korean teaching the Japanese about tolerance. Had to.

Surprised only one person has mentioned alcohol. It's free! Get on. Have a drink or two. Sleep. Wake up, eat, and pound a couple more. Sleep more. Repeat till you get there.

I have a PDA that I use to watch movies. Slap an audio book or several podcasts on your mp3 player. Buy a bunch of back issues of magazines from a used book store.
