Is one or both of your cats male? Is the one with the toilet issues male?
We had that problem with our cats at home (2 males, 1 female). One of them would consistenly go to the washroom outside the box, or just outside it.
We talked to the vet about it, and he said it can be quite common in households where there is more than one cat, and one of them is male. When one cat uses the box, they "spray" their scent, and mark it as their territory. As a result the other cat (cats) don't feel comfortable doing their business in the same box. The solution? Sounds moronic, and it's more work, but get another box. We have 3 cats at home, and 3 boxes, side by side in our laundry room. Each cat has their own designated litter box now, and they NEVER go in any other box. Quite funny actually. If it is as consistent a problem as you say, perhaps try getting a second box for a short while and see if it makes a difference.
Kicking and hitting them won't work. But spraying with water SURE does! A quick blast from a spray bottle or water gun does wonders. Cats hate being wet! Spray the wire-chewing cat, and it'll put two and two together fast! |

| if the cats chews on anything it shouldn't, you should coat that thing (wires or whatever) with something spicy. |

| For they areas they shat on, you gotta claim it as your territory by spraying some of your piss there. Then they'll know to stay away. It'll work for the wire problem too. |

Has always worked for me.
The spray bottle works well too, use it in conjunction with "No!" if "No!" isn't working well after a few weeks. |

Alright, I've had these cats for about a week now. Unlike my previous cats, which were adorable and almost no problem, these two monsters just do not quit. Since my other cats had no discipline problems, I'm left using what I learned from raising puppies as a child, which seems to be ineffective.
Just a summary:
Earlier tonight, Laney was under my computer desk messing around with the wires. She's been doing that a lot, and every time I grab her by the neck and give her a good pop on the hind quarter. That hasn't been working, so tonight I gave her a good kick. Possibly too hard. She made that weird guttural yelp sound and slunk away under my bed. Haven't seen her since.
Now, I know what you're thinking, and yes, it's true that the tactic seems to have worked for now, but I can guarantee she'll be back at it again tomorrow with her idiotic cat brain. I've got to get her off these wires.
Her biggest problem is messing with the wires, but Karl Marx is the real nuisance. He keeps crapping and pissing on the floor. He still hasn't used the litter box. What I've been doing is rubbing his face in it and spanking him about seven times. Let me tell you, he flips out when I do that. He tries to use his back legs to get footing, which results in him scratching me up a bit.
These are just two of their most recurring problems, but they have more. Like Laney, she digs too much in the litter box after she drops a deuce. Karl Marx keeps attacking Laney for no reason, instigating fights. They both crawl all over the furniture with their grimy little paws, despite me slamming them to the ground every time they do it. I've got a laundry list.
Any ideas on how to break these animals? I'm not gonna put up with this too much longer before they're on their own, I'm afraid.
Thanks,

Q,
Embrace the spray bottle, live by the spray bottle. It broke Fitz of his habit of getting on the table and getting on the kitchen counter and when we get Zelda here in a week or two it will be employed to break her of whatever little habits she comes with. Good luck. |
Yes, it totally works. You dont want the cat to know where the negative stimulus is coming from. Its the only way I've ever been able to get a cat to do anything.... |

You are supposed to put something on the wires that repels cats, that they would not want to taste. Look that up. There are tips on the net for that. Do not hit your cats.

If you must use punishment, it's got to happen within 1.8 seconds of the offence (that's the ideal time-frame for positive or negative reinforcement.) If you discover it 5 minutes later, sorry-- you're boned.
The spray bottle sounds a lot more humane than the smacking. Another deterrent you might consider is an empty Coke can that rattles loudly. You can throw it if you see the cat doing something wrong and they just hate it.
The two-litter-box solution sounds very useful as well.
A few more things on training in general which will make everything you do more effective--
Be consistent
Reward good or even harmless behaviour. Use a soothing, nice tone of voice, physical affection or food. If the behaviour turns bad, the first thing you do is stop rewarding and simply ignore. If it persists, then consider something aversive. |

This is excellent advice. I'm gonna try it later on. |

Some cats are very picky and can be prince or princess types. Some cats hate sharing litter boxes and consider it gross or expect you to constantly change the litter. You have to expect that with some cats.
You can also spray wires with certain things cats hate. I think you can look that up on the internet. Avoid hitting your cats, you may feel bad later on for doing that. They won't like that, I am sure. |

I hope you're carrying around a stopwatch with a digital display...1.9 seconds post-offence, and you're getting boned by your cat. F*CK! You should just take my advice and kick 'em to the curb. |

Well, what do y'alls think about just using a pocket taser on them? I was thinking it would be ideal since I wouldn't even have to get up to get punt them or whatever if they are within reach.
I think if you only do a one-second shot, it just stuns them. |
