Oh My God. CLG, get this. I was going to get on the elevator today and there was this group of other Koreans waiting for it too. I don't know if they were just visiting, teachers, or what. Anyways, I move myself to the middle/side of the crowd so I can get in when the doors open (no pushing or shoving, just moving into place) and when they do open I am herded into the elevator quite literally by the soju belly of the guy behind me. Ewwww. I was so grossed out that he actually did that. Sure sure...Confucian thinking prevails among the older generations: He doesn't know me and so I am not there, but give me a break!
I felt so disgusting and squished myself into the corner of the elevator as far as possible. I think one of the **women** there (not Soju Belly) said sorry to me, but I wasn't really there at the moment...I was thinking how much I wanted to take a shower, and get the hell out of there.
They all left on the 15th floor and I finally got my voice back, and sputtered out "Yuck! That was so rude!" I think one of the girls heard me, but again I think Soju Belly was quite oblivious.
EDIT: Read the rest of your post. CLG, not to get all uhnni on you, but what the hell are you doing with drinking buddies who ditch you in a place as skeezy as Itaewon can be? That's bad news! Isn't this the second time that has happened to you? Get new drinking friends, please!
Come down to Gwangju, go drinking with me, and I promise I will make sure you don't get into any trouble!!

Sweetheart, on Friday, there will be many of us around, so there will be no leaving anyone behind. It will be a night to remember, and those S.M.W (you know what that stands for) can do all the W. they like, and we'll be there. Just like cheers, yet extended to include many differnt bars. hugs and kisses. |

Thanks for all the well wishes. The dudes weren't korean, but they weren't from any of the places you can get an e2 either. Two of them grabbed my arms while the third one grabbed my head. So my abilty to fight back wasn't exactly great.
My drinking partners in question, are normally good people (for canadians ), and I enjoy spending time with them. However they tend to let their little head do the thinking for the big one at times, which I should of probably thought about before I went out on the town with them, by myself esp. to place like Itaewon (I prefer hongdae myself). They got an earful over it, and don't think they'll do it again, but I'm not going to take any risks.
I was really upset about last week, and typical korean styles drowned my sorrows, but I'm now back up to 48 hours booze free!
But anyway time for PSA. Don't hang around itaewon by yourself, and make sure your drinking partners don't let the little head do thinking for the big one.
Thank yer and good night.

According to other posters on here, you should have stuck around and tried to make friends with those guys -- then see what happened.
I made the mistake of saying that I am cautious about people from certain areas of the globe, and I got slammed up and down and called a "racist" on here.
But as I said in a response to them, I'm not about to abandon common sense to Political Correctness any time soon! |

No I think it's just part of Gollum's I hate darkies thing. I'm happy to make friends from any place. I don't like the jerks that grabbed me because they are jerks, not because of the pigment of their skin.

I know CLG, I was being sarcastic...I see in no place anything that supports the idea that anyone was saying you should have tried to "understand" the guys who attacked you. Puh-leeeeze!
Anyways, did I mention how happy I am that you are OK? |

Yes, and thanks for the offer for drinking gwangju, I've just got to work out a weekend when I'm free. Which isn't any time in October, I do lead a charmed life.

CLG,
I know it can really get to you sometimes. You have every right to be upset. When you stick out, you attract attention. Often, it is often the attention of weirdos and jerks.
In my time in Korea, I was grabbed by a high school student on a dark road, followed by a man in a car, stalked over the phone, man-handled on the subway, and propositioned on the street.
On the other hand, sticking out meant that I received favors that others didn't. People took me to dinner with a Korean rock star. Women on the street would tell me I was beautiful. I always got served at the bank right away by one of the managers. People would buy me drinks and snacks on the express bus, when they didn't even know me.
My biggest help in getting most of the negative things to stop was to have male Korean friends. They ran interference when I was out on the town and tracked down the followers and telephone stalkers to let them know it wasn't going to be tolerated.
Keep your chin up girl, and please be more careful at night. It is not safer in Korea for a girl to be alone. |

I've been groped on the subway too, and get this, when I had a massage in a place in Itaewon the guy jumped up on the table and squatted above me...and I thought "O.K, this is a little weird...maybe he can't apply the right pressure at the other angle (?)..." Then I felt his hard on pushing into my back! I figured I was open minded enough to laugh it off and didn't want to cause a scene, but even so!
Yes, please be careful! |

It's hard to abandon something you dont possess.
And CLG. I'm glad you are okay.
I occasionally strange guys poking me in the equipment and commenting about it. I keep giving them the "If you want to stay standing, dont do that again." look. It seems to work. |

This should be deleted.

Damn CMG that was a close call....god bless America!
I have had it with ahole guys, tonight i had my new (1 day for me) puppy outside the local shop waiting for my daily dose of bi bim bap when three drunk Koreans came to pet him...well 2 were ok but one picked him up and threw him onto the freezer, not too far but enough to piss me off, so i punched him in the arm and told him to F off, ordinarily im sure he would have hit me back but he was too shocked. I think some korean guys are threatened by dogs, probabally because most korean girls pay more attention to the dog than to them.
off topic...Last time i was in Itawon a guy offered the guy i was with 50000 won to ditch me so he could move in...what a slease....
also the taxi driver tried to ripp me off, once the fare was 3000 over what i usually pay i made him turn off the meter, funny thing was he had driven so far out of the way it still took another 20 mins to get to where i was staying.
where are all the normal guys? |
