exactly.... I couldn't agree more.

Well...most people are simply trying to explain to the op what they are looking for so as to not cause confusion. It's not just a cpu, and yet I don't think he/she understands that. That's all.

Good grief.

People come on here, correcting others with idiocy of their own. Thats great. System Unit? Can we lash two more non-descript words together? How about function box?

An example: Choose one.

a) Where can I buy a system unit?
b) Where can I buy a computer?
c) Where can I buy a function box?
d) Where can I buy a go run hard box driver?

Who doesn't know that the box next to the desk is called a computer? Not familiar with computers?! They don't even know the word? Hey, I'm very forgiving of people not knowing some things, but there is a line between that and stupidity.

I wonder how some people get their cloth foot sheaths on in the morning.

So using that definition of "system unit" the OP doesn't need hard drives, eh?

Seriously, that term is obviously archaic. Just look at the picture!

OP: don't use acronyms that you don't know the definition of, and don't try to sound smart when you don't know what you're talking about. Use basic terms that are correct.

No, that's not correct. The definition says that anything that is peripheral is not part of the system unit. The photo is old, yes, and nowadays hard drives are internal, therefore part of the system unit.

If you look at one of the several other definitions of system unit available on the internet you'll see that they identify that some people mistakenly call the system unit the "CPU", as Safee did.

http://dict.die.net/system%20unit/

It's a common mistake and lots of people do it. No big deal. What's really a big deal is people calling other people stupid and idiotic because they use terms that are correct, just because they themselves haven't heard of them.

If you call it a computer, it implies a monitor, keyboard and mouse are required. That's not what the OP wants.

People call me pedantic. Rolling Eyes

I am no novice user and never once have I said or heard anyone else call it a "system unit".

What a pathetic thread full of pathetic butt covering. It's a freaking computer. Implied this, implied that...whatever. System unit implies nothing and means nothing; it hasn't since hard drives were moved to the inside the case.

Anyhow, maybe some good can come of this. I'm looking for 4 pistons with tires. Any help?
