For Korea this is not true at all. In fact if you get the 3G version there are reports that it is unlocked so all you need is a SIM card from a carrier like KT Telecom and the Ipad will be ready for cellular data. |
There is no way that you can use an iPad 3G on a Korean 3G network without getting it certified by the KCC. True, it is carrier unlocked, but it isn't on the IMEI (or whatever) whitelist that Korea uses to allow devices to access cellular networks. |
Then why does AT&T have data roaming for the iPhones and iPads in Korea? |
I'm sorry that I wasn't clear. I meant that there is no way to use it natively on LG, SK, or KT in Korea (not roaming). You are free to roam and pay AT&T's exorbitant roaming fees, though.
I think that you are picking a fight over semantics, though. You must have known what I meant to say. |

UPDATE
Looks like they have been released by customs. Well, at least mine has. I was asked by UPS on Thursday to fax in a letter stating that it was for personal use and pretty please send it to me. I also needed to send in a receipt as proof of price.
All of this happened on the same day that the RRA approved it, so not sure if the letter was what did it or not. I still have to wait until Monday to get it if there aren't anymore complications. |

I didn't ship mine in an Apple box either. It must've made it in just before the blockade. Still had to pay about that same price in taxes + delivery fee. |

Got my mine delivered Sunday morning?! after pleading with the customs officer (dickhead) late on Friday afternoon, that I purchased two one for me and for my girlfriend. He then called her and asked loads of questions, like where does she work, what does she do for a living, how long have we been together?! ... I wasnt going for a F2 visa or nothing just a little biddy ipad!!
So in the end he agreed to let them both come through, that with a 1TB time capsule, paid 154,00 for all three, plus my shipping which was via China for 98 USD.
But after all that, it is SO SO f**Kin worth it!
If your in two minds to get one, I say go for it! well worth the wait/headaches! |

The KCC has approved the iPad in that it won't interfere with wireless communications and can be used fine on the wireless networks in Korea. They've also eased restrictions to allow people to import their iPad in Korea.
The iPad is still not available for pre-ordering in Korea, i'm guessing sometime in August as Korea was not included in the countries set to receive in July (Japan was). |

No, you won't have any problem. However, some apps like NetFlix and Pandora will detect you're outside of the U.S. and not function. I really miss Pandora.
Would it be worth bringing an iPad? You could probably resell it for quite a bit, so that might be nice. However there's no Korean language for the keyboard as far as I understand so that might narrow the market of potential buyers. |
So sign up for a VPN. I have witopia (google it). It's like about 30 bucks for a year of service and you can use pandora to your heart's content. Of course, you can also use the aupeo app for iphone (also usable on ipad) which is very similar to pandora and doesn't care where on earth you're located. |

How does it work with iPhone/iTouch? Is there an app to download? I checked out their website and I know it's compatible, but it doesn't say how. It just mentions that you have to install it on your computer.
