The Korea Herald is taking this issue very seriously. Bravo to good journalism, for a change.

Again, the question remains- Who posted the original video?

New footage debunks club ‘abuse’ video
Additional footage provided to The Korea Herald indicates that a controversial viral video of two Western men sexually harassing a Korean woman was staged.

Two additional videos featuring the involved parties include slightly different variations of the scenes that prompted outrage online and worldwide media coverage.

I think the main point is that the video has been debunked.

The makers of the video should be charged and arrested.

There could've been riots, violence etc just because some idiot decided to make a stupid video.

Its incitement to racial hatred. He should be jailed.

I don't remember anyone calling for MBC producers to be jailed.
Retraction from the media outlets that have reported on this seems like a more sensible request.

'Having viewed the alternate takes alongside the original, it seems highly likely that the entire incident was a performance.'

Highly likely?!! Not definitively? haha

I don't understand the unwillingness to post the alternate takes. If it's a question of revealing someone's identity, just blur out their faces. It will shut everyone up once and for all.

Maybe it's someone locally known?

As things stand any guy with a hate on for foreigners can simply make an inflammatory video and release it online.

What would happen if the next time they get some foolish waeguk to act out stabbing a korean woman?

Hoaxes should be tolerated only insofar as they remain benign. In this case the potential for harm was huge.

Its similar to someone issuing a fake bomb threat.

So if the makers of the video are to be pursued and punished, what about the participants (korean or foreign) who chose to participate and take money to perform in this racial hatred piece?

Do they get a pass because they were just "acting" or "doing their jobs"?

Anyway, that video looked real. Good acting on everyone's part I guess. I have a hard time believing that girl wasn't drunk.

Who's to say she wasn't (and the guys weren't)? Maybe they had some drinks before doing the acting. (Maybe in the sober state they wouldn't have agreed to do that.) People do stupid things when drunk. (Like agree to be in horrible videos for a cash payout.)

Check out this from the Washington Post: (It looks like I'm right.)
Quote:
a Korean man who identified himself as the director bought them beers and tequila. A Korean woman was also there — the woman in the video — and she drank as well. There were no cameras or other equipment, only an iPhone. The director told one of the Western men to use the iPhone to record his friend groping and insulting the Korean woman, now visibly intoxicated from tequila shots, as they both insulted her for having discolored gums. They were told that the movie would be a commentary on plastic surgery, which is common in South Korea. After several takes, the men were paid about $90 each in cash and went home.

The men were paid 100,000 won to be in the video.
Quote:
At the end of the shoot, the two actors were paid 100,000 won each, while the interpreter was paid 50,000 won.

Something doesn't seem right.

I'm not sure about the Korean Herald's investigative comments about this situation. A part of me senses some damage control efforts from who knows who?

For example: The alleged Korean female actor? I can't picture the supposed director explaining to her that:

Director:this other actor is gonna stick his finger in your nose and then put it in your mouth while you drunkingly subject yourself to it only to come to your senses somewhat that your being abused and you run off in anger. Oh, and they are also gonna insult your teeth and gums. You know, they really are messed up for real, so we can capitalize on this for the documentary.

Her: ok

Really?

Maybe they really are great improvisational actors and this sorta directing did not happen. Actually, if they are actors that is some of the best improv I've ever seen IMO.

I just can't picture a female Korean actor to hit the role so perfectly?

I think this analysis should be included in this investigative narrative though.

I was really disappointed when I saw that video. Just like to know the full story.

If it was a fake, studios should hire the white dude in the video. Great acting by a foreigner in Korea in a long time.

The girl drank more and more liquor between the takes of this scene. There was also a lot of improvising. This was all included in the said investigative narrative.

You know what would really blow the lid off that story? I'd laugh myself silly if it turned out the Korean woman in the video happened to not actually be Korean.

Can we all, at least agree on, that it was a pretty sh*t piece of film-making?

That would still leave the issue of men behaving like disgusting pigs towards a woman (regardless of her race or ethnicity). Thats funny?
