It's been reported to me that at least one butcher shop in Gimhae is selling US beef. There will be more detailed directions coming.

Just to bump the post, I got 13,000 worth of beef at the Yaksu butcher mentioned before. That is 2 really big steaks. Been eating it for 2 days. The best beef I've had in Korea (considering I've gotten some really tough meat from Kim's Club). I passed the place for months but didn't buy it thinking it had been frozen for months and wouldn't be good. But it was great beef. Very tender. About 1600 won for 100 gms. There was one more expensive cut there that was 1900 won. Wasn't clear what the difference was. So not a huge savings over Aussie beef, but great quality.

Quick question to all you carnivores out there:

Top blade steaks are going for 27-32,000W for 6 steaks at Costco. How do these smaller mom & pop places compare?

I'm curious to see if it's worth the trip to one of these smaller shops.

Finally got around to visiting the Yaksu butcher shop and I'm really glad I did. I bought a bunch of thick sirloin steaks (6) and had him grind up a decent amount of ground beef. I paid W30,000 and I couldn't be happier. The couple working there were very friendly. When I got home I marinated the steaks and they were succulent the next evening. A thousand times better than any steak I've purchased at Costco or Lotte.

As far as the directions go....I would amend the 2 minute walk. I was surprised at how close the butcher shop was from Exit 8. It was more like a 30 second walk.

Thank you,
Hoss.

Got 1 kilo of what he calls "choice" at Yaksu tonite. 1100 won for 100 gms. We'll see if it is as good as what he calls "prime." 2 huge steaks for 16,000 won. A lower cut than I got before. Before I got prime, which was so tender was around 1600 won for 100 grms. Wish I had a grill.
The man is very friendly and tried his English to sell what he has. Well worth the trip.

Yeah, I went to the Sinchon butcher.

Go out exit #8, walk less than 100 meters. Walk past Giordanos and (I've forgotten the name). You see the bowling pin and walk into the underground shopping area. It's hard to miss the blackmarket store, at least for those who know what to look for, that is on the corner of the underground shopping area and the main street. Walk about, what, 75-100 meters further. Look for an export sign that has an American flag (I know, what's up with export?).

Where's this black market store? What do they have there? If someone could PM me about this I would appreciate it.

You make a U-turn (on your right) and then make the first left.

does anyone know the per 100 gram price for places like lottemart, emart, and homeplus?

I'm going to go exploring sometime this week but everything is in different directions/crazy far away from me, so wondering if anyone had already checked.

Depends what kind of cut you want. The cheapest (bulgogi slices) usually go for around 700 won for 100 grams.
