No? Was the quality just shit? Kept cutting out? And ya, that's what I am going to do also. Hopefully an untethered jailbreak will come along soon.

I hope you got a nice data plan. I would think using Skype over 3G would eat up MB's.

Another question with the Iphone. Let's say you are streaming something over the 3G and you come within range of a Wifi hotspot. Does it automatically connect you to the hotspot without breaking the stream?

Or do you have to stop whatever you are currently doing, in order the iPhone to switch over to Wifi from 3G (or vice versa).

By "not worth it" I meant that I didn't want to be somewhere and have my phone crash, then have to get to a computer to reboot and jailbreak it again. Once it turns off or needs a reboot it needs to be connected to a computer or it just stays at the USB cable screen. I didn't want to risk being stranded with a non-functional phone just for Skype over 3G.

Skype actually worked awesomely (is that a word?). I called my Dad in Canada over wifi, 3G, and the standard mobile network ($3/min) and he said that wifi was identical to the mobile network. He said over 3G it was a bit worse quality but it wasn't laggy or anything. If we weren't doing a comparison he said he probably wouldn't have noticed it.

I was hoping to use Skype over 3G so that I could drunk dial friends in Canada when I'm at the bar. But I'll just wait for an untethered jailbreak before I do it again.

I seem to remember (from my Canadian 3G) that YouTube would play through the video, but the next video you watch would be on wifi. I'll have to verify that when I'm at a wifi network, though. Also, don't take my word on this at the moment since I'm not sure.

I have a question, well a few, for those that just got the iPhone 3GS in Korea. My co-teacher will be ordering mine some time this weekend and I just want to know as much as I can before unlocking/jailbreaking it.

What network will the iPhone in Korea be on? I thought the whole problem with Korea was that they use a different network than the US. That was the reason that bringing a phone from the US to Korea or vice verse wouldn't work.

I also thought Korea didn't use real SIM cards. I have a SIM card in my current Motorola with SK. If I unlock the iPhone, will it work on the SK network? Why or why not? Did KT start a new network just for the iPhone?

Is the iPhone here any different than what is sold in the US? I looked at the version number and base band and they seem identical to those that are currently being sold in the US. With the Blackra1n update, you can unlock your AT&T phone in the US and use it on Tmobile. It is tethered, but that will be fixed soon enough I am sure.

Has anyone tried http://www.unlockediphone.info/ or a website similar? They state that their unlock feature works even with the 5.11 base band. I've emailed them to ask if it's tethered or not.

Has anyone had success popping in a SIM card from a non-Korean phone that you might just have sitting around the house? I'm hoping to pick up a couple of cards online and have them shipped here to see if they work or not.

Thanks all.

Okay, so I got the Iphone, but it won't activate. My gf called KT and they said that I just need to wait for the text message to activate my phone. So it's been like 30 minutes and I'm still waiting. So for those of you who got your iphone, how long did you wait for the text.

Four days now, still my iphone isn't activated. I've texted them my SIM card number and serial number, NOTHING. Their customer service has no clue. I'd AVOID buying an i-phone until KT can figure out how to properly launch it.

My Iphone is working now. I had my gf take it down to one of the KT centers for the Iphone, there should be a list that came with the phone, at they got it working. Not sure what they did, I was just glad that it was working.

SHOW and KTF (now completely merged) have operated a 3G (WCDMA) network for a couple of years now. The original iPhone didn't work here because it was GSM. The 3G iPhone did work (through roaming) because it supports the old GSM+EDGE as well as WCDMA+3G. It was due to political reasons that you couldn't use it here until now. You can even take an old iPhone 3G and pay to have it certified to use here. This is the only country in the world (other than Turkey) that blocks unlocked, compatible phones from being used on their networks. You can thank Samsung and LG for that.

There are differences between standard SIM cards and Korean USIM cards. I've heard a lot of conflicting facts so I'm going to not answer this question.

Same as everywhere else in the world. Blackra1n + blacksn0w both work on this just as on the other phones. All newish 3Gs iPhones currently require a tethered jailbreak.

In the past, any site claiming to come up with their own custom unlock and selling it in has been 100% bogus. They usually take the world of the iPhone Dev Team or Geohot and repackage it to make it look custom. Never pay for an unlock.

I did the reverse. When I had my Canadian iPhone 3G I tried to put my Korean USIM in it, even after yellowsn0w. It just coughed up an error. Presumably, any non-Korean SIM should work as long as you've used blacksn0w.

Thanks. Looks like mine will be here sometime at the end of next week. I'll play around with it then and buy a SIM from Thailand or the Philippines in a few weeks.

Looks like you'd better ask your favorite Korean to do you a favor and put it under their name.

They wouldn't let you buy the phone outright and then just pay for the monthly plan?

What is it that they are blocking? I am guessing it has to be a software issue featured in the phone. Or is it the USIM card?

Nope. I was told my Show and A# that the Iphone is only being offered with 2 year contracts. I wouldn't pay full price for the Iphone anyways. 900,000w for a $400 phone is ridiculus.

IMEI block. Every phone has a unique identification number. Korea has a whitelist of approved IMEIs. If you use a Korean SIM and your phone is not on the list, it will be rejected from connecting to a Korean network.

If you're roaming, there is no whitelist.

Wow, you've really got me thinking now. Do you think if I unlock my Motorola phone that is currently on Show, and pop in the USIM from another phone that is also registered to Show, that it will work?

Both phones would have IMEI numbers that should be on the whitelist.

Because of all the problems with the PhoneStore regarding the iPhone, KT has decided to give all people who made reservations an extra 500MB of data a month for the first 3 months!! Sweet!
