In the dozens of times I've eaten it, I've never smelt a 'wet dog'.

Holy smokes, I should hope not:

smelt 1 (smlt)
v. smelted, smelting, smelts
v.tr.
To melt or fuse (ores) in order to separate the metallic constituents.
v.intr.
To melt or fuse. Used of ores.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/smelt

That's crueler than them beating them to death.

I'm not sure whether you're being facetious or not, but smelt is an acceptable variant of smelled.

He's probably from the USA. We have never smelled wet dog.
Americans like to keep things interesting by only having one acceptable past tense for smell.

Me too.

I didn't know that, but most Buddhists would be worried about karma if they inflicted unecessary pain on another sentinent being. Strict Buddhist law actually prohibits "wrongful occupations" (i.e., slaughterman).

Then why bother correcting my phrase? If it was grammatically correct, what's your beef?

Buddhists can be just as cruel and barbaric as people from any other religion.

Wow! Korea has nothing on China for animal cruelty. I just came across this video when I was trying to see the Bush - Clinton sleeve wipe incident.

Warning! Graphic images

hmm..That's not really a morally acceptable position...

In the same way that (for example)if you came across a child sinking in quicksand and could save from death by pulling them out...but instead just decided to ignore and carry on walking - because you couldn't care less...

This isn't about being an 'animal lover'. It's about being a decent human being.
