hmm..That's not really a morally acceptable position...
In the same way that (for example)if you came across a child sinking in quicksand and could save from death by pulling them out...but instead just decided to ignore and carry on walking - because you couldn't care less...
This isn't about being an 'animal lover'. It's about being a decent human being. |
Wow....exagerate much?
So someone who eats dog is not a decent human being?
Good grief...not many decent human beings on the planet then, must be quite the exclusive club....
Eat shark fin soup: not a decent human being
Buy clothes at Wal Mart: not a decent human being
Eat Tuna Steak: not a decent human being
Eat any cattle: not a decent human being
Drink coffee thats not certified fair: not a decent human being
By that short list alone there must be oh 2-3 decent human beings on the planet. |

most people don't know a great deal about food production and animal welfare issues - the point was this contributor presumably read through a lengthy discussion on the Korean dog meat industry which included graphic details of intentional dog torture and came to the conclusion that they couldn't care less..
So yes I am questioning their morality.. |

| Well, Homer, ever heard of a thing called evolution? Y'know, it is possible to not follow the sheeple and actually try to evolve. But I guess evolution isn't in your DNA because you post like a demon and you don't even live here anymore. Why? Learn to evolve. |

Wishmaster...ever hear of reading between the lines and of the second degree when writing something?
Or take what I wrote literally and have a ball.
As for the morality issue....you may have a point drywell. But saying people are not decent human beings because they do not care about how dogs are raised and slaughtered for consumption is a bit over the top no? |

You know Homer, you're right.
We hear awful tales about the Korean boshintang 'industry', but how many people worry about the suffering their steak or chicken breast went through before it hit their plate? I like Fido as much as the next guy, but c'mon.
Not to excuse the Korean practice, but people should look a little more closely in the mirror and maybe watch a documentary or two about Western practices vis-a-vis mass animal slaughter.
(Shakes head after actually backing up Homer.) |

Agreed. On a similar note, it weirds me out when people talk about the Japanese killing dolphins and how heartless they are. I just say, "you realize the chickens whose nuggets you are now eating had their beaks cut off when they were like one week old, right?" |

Evolution isn't something you can "try to do." Is this an inside joke or something? |

Lots of decent people post here. You need to stop confusing "indecent people" with "people who disagree with Bramble." |

To eat meat, we must prematurely end the life of an animal. We have to kill it before it's natural life cycle ends. IMO the slaughter method is secondary. We can put a bullet into it's head, we can beat it to death, we can electrocute it, we can slit it's neck. Point is, we deliberately kill animals because we want to eat them.
I respect vegetarians and vegans. They've made a moral choice and they generally stick to it. Fair play to them. I actually have greater respect for vegans, because they are hardcore.
I don't respect meat eaters who try to tell me which kind of meat I can and can't eat, and judge me according to the type of meat I enjoy. |

| I think the method of slaughter is extremely important along with how the animal is raised. I would like to see as little suffering as possible. Just like if I were going to be slaughtered and eaten, I would prefer to go as painlessly and quickly as possible. |

Let me try to boil down some of the arguments posted here. As I see it, here are the varying opinions:
1. Don't eat any meat. There's no avoiding cruelty if you do.
2. If you don't care how some of the meat you eat is treated before and during death, you shouldn't care about any other animals because that is hypocritical.
3. It's their culture. Period. Trying to change someone else's culture because it offends you is racist.
4. It's ok if you eat animals treated humanely, it doesn't matter what onomatopoeic word describes the noise the animal made, be it "moo", "cluck", "oink", or even "mung mung".
Did I miss anything? |
