The concept of enlightened self-determination does not exist in the Korean vocabulary. The Korean woman must therefore swing between two extremes- she must either rigidly observe the social mores, or wildly abandon them in some drunken out of sight excess. In contrast, the western woman has the luxury of holding in harmonious balance social pressure and values on the one hand, and the instinct for self-expression and freedom on the other. She has the western tradition to thank for that. It is far less likely that she will appear a prude.... or the opposite.

Koreans keep to their own until you try speaking some Korean to them. Then things change. |

They are personally unappealing, seem to have serious mental disorders and are so deludedly arrogant and stuck up. What is the matter with them? I have never attempted to even consider going out with any of them, cos I find them funny looking and depressing to look at at the same time. I just dont understand their bad attitudes. |
right man! they are, unappealing, arrogant, stuck up, funny looking, depressing and have bad attitudes. We are way more appealing, humble, good looking, gregarious and jovial! Yea!
Wait. Who is arrogant again? |

I just spent a few days in Seoul. I think I take back some of what I said. Unlike past visits, no stares or any attention from girls walking by this time. Lol. |

Just like everything else in Korea, the ladies are opposite extremes. Based on the one who yelled, "NO!" in my face when I was about to ask for directions and the one who waved and then asked me for sex at a fast food joint, I'd have to day Korea has both the least friendly and the most friendly ladies. |

Same thing happened to me. (Taco Bell in Itaewon) Turned out the woman was a prostitute. It's happened to me a few times there. Very close to the subway station. As I'm walking a woman says to me, "Sex?" in a crowded pedestrian walkway in broad daylight in the early afternoon. |

Mine was a university student in Anyang, and her mom kept calling her over and over when she was at my place.
I don't go to Itaewon, but hookers have propositioned me in Jongno and Yeongdeungpo. Plus a lady popped her head out of a door in some part of town I can't remember and went "Yooohooo." Oh, and one night in the City Hall area, a dude lit his cigarette lighter to get my attention and pointed to a building with a sauna sign, saying there were ladies in there. I guess I must look like a really rough character for everyone to consider me their go-to guy for a wild time. |

Speaking Korean usually doesnt make difference in in korea for foreigners except when going on tv or ordering a meal. Indeed much of the time knowing Korean is actually a negative. |

Stop generalizing, and get with the real world program. For the woman obsessed with practicing English, yes your Korean might be a negative. But for many Korean woman, it will be a huge negative if you have lived in the country for years without bothering to learn some of the language. Get good enough... intermediate level and up.... and you will find yourself in the lucky position of conversing mostly in Korean to someone who knows little English. In this territory, you can safely assume you are not being 'used' for your English. |

Rules that apply other places often don't apply in Korea. If the girl is into the typical Korean mind set then they are not going to go with a foreigner anyway. Being able to speak Korean does't really matter. Though as I said it can be a negative. Many Korean women have an image of what a foreigner should be, speaking Korean (at the level of a child ) doesn't figure into that equation.
Another thing to consider on top of bad demographics is that compared to other countries in NE Asia Korean women are less likely to find foreign guys attractive or have just ruled them out as a possibility.
Actually the best advice I could give someone for meeting Korean women would be to go to church because many Korean women very much into it and also though it they are less likely to see one as only being a foreigner. |

'If the girl is into the typical Korean mind-set'.
People [including girls] are individuals first and foremost. Nothing attests to this fact more than the ability to form friendships and find lovers. As they mature into adulthood, they begin to question elements of the culture into which they've been born. Think of culture as the necessary ground within which to develop, and think of personality as the developing plant reaching for the sun. Now when you relate to a girl, in a personal or romantic way, of whatever culture, the last thing you have in mind are the so-called cultural parameters, or the restrictive norms. No, you are a man relating to a woman, you have cut through all the cultural undergrowth and stand before each other naked as Adam and Eve, metaphorically speaking. When you connect to a woman in this way, when you seduce her, you will create a world of your own, and all those pesky doubts about the impossibility of sampling the fruit from the tree of another culture will fall on deaf ears. |

I didn't read the thread.
To answer the OP: Women are status obsessed. Every woman knows her value in every way right from head to toe.
If a woman is being stuck up to you she is expressing her contempt that you - of lesser status (in her perception) - is attempting to speak with her. She will not be similarly "stuck up" when taking to a male she regards as higher status than her.
If every woman you meet it stuck up you might want to hit the weights. |

Advising someone to go to church to meet women is silly. |

Might be for other places , less so for Korea. It allows someone to get out of being seen as just a foreigner.
