I've run across a few foreigners that can't stand Itaewon.
One foreigner I talked with said "I don't want to see foreigners in Korea"
What does that even mean?
If you hate Itaewon, why?
Personally I think it's good for food. But at night, the place just becomes barbaric and just not my scene. |
Answered your own question there no? |

| I'll go for food, otherwise it's a bit too trashy/dirty/low-class for my blood. |

There are some nice places to go in Suwon like Red Chicken, About, Wine Cave, etc...but during the week I usually don't leave my apartment because I am scared of what is outside. People might bump into me. |

Yeah, I only caught the tail end of that in late '96. Dump or no dump, it has never had that kind of energy again. Some say Itaewon peaked just after the Olympic Games when it was considered the Kangnam of Seoul nightlife. (I know some are going to deny that - but I've heard it more than a few times).
It's better in many ways now - especially during the day. There was just a certain something back at the time that's not there anymore. Maybe even a good thing ... |
So, what the place really like back in the 90's or even early 2000's? I would be curious to know. How about after the Olympics? Were there adjummas on the street selling vegetables or other things? Many parts of Seoul seem quite modern. I even live in a new town outside of Seoul. But have seen enough dumpy buildings and still run down areas that project a reflection of Korea's past. I always like reading about what things were like. |
