The indictment was a long-shot because officers don't get indicted.
As for whether charges would ultimately yield a conviction, that's really not the point. If police officers are charged and cross-examined, it may do something to discourage reckless and harsh policing. As it stands, police officers routinely get away with murder.
Trials are unpredictable. That is one reason why prosecutors scuttle them for police officers, and police officers return the favor by returning the testimony and cooperation prosecutors demand. |
