| I actually really liked Korean food prior to coming here, but at this point I find it exceedingly boring and bland. That said, so do all the Apgujeong/Kangnam kids I went to high school and college with, so I wouldn't say foreigners are really alone in this. |

Alternately: what kind of Idiot moves to a country with such terrible food? Pretty much everybody on here I guess. The difference is some of us have the palate to realize (this should occur somewhere inside of the first week or two) that korean cuisine is pretty much a one trick pony. |

| A lot of Koreans love to boast about their mediocre food, while simultaneously putting down food from other nations. That's the same bare faced cheek as a fundamentalist Christian mocking a Scientologist for his outlandish beliefs. |

the food of a country comes in at about the bottom of a reasons to move and work there. One can always make one's own food. When dieting, I'm very particular about the types of food I want to eat and how they're prepared.
Most countries can accomodate me. Korea can't. No great loss. Make your own food. Problem solved.
what's interesting is of the many countries around the world I've been in, very few locals will brag about their food. They'll brag about their women, stuff like that, but only in Korea do the locals insist on telling me how "delicious" their food is. |

+1
Unless you have specific dietary needs (vegetarian, pescatarian, high meat, don't like spicy food, etc), or absolutely love the act of eating, there's really no point in ranking the food as a make-or-break aspect of moving to another country. |

| Honestly, why does the opinion of a person or persons from Hickville USA about food count? It doesn't. |

first of all, the taste of food is to a high degree, subjective and there are people who actually enjoy korean food.
secondly, most of the people who can't eat the food here or anywhere else outside of their tried and true in-and-out burger have a palate that has about the same ability to recognize good food as someone who never graduated the third grade has the ability to understand quantum superposition.
you morons who come and say that the food here is bad should definitely hit up africa sometime. write me a postcard with your mouth full of whatever larvae you dug up that day. |

I love Korean food. I really do.
I love Bibimbap, Kimbap, the Bokkum baps, kim chi, the Jiggaes, the bean pastes, the gochujang and quite a few other things. I'm a vegetarian too so I haven't even tried the meat/fish stuff and I still like it.
Korean food is so uniform because Korea has an inward facing country with a population of under 50 million. For being essentially one Chinese (Mongol?) province, it actually has a pretty varied selection of food. |

a)you seen pretty defensive, it's funny that the people defending korean food are the ones throwing around terms like idiot and moron. did somebody put too many fish heads in your soup for breakfast?
b) who says I can't eat the food here? I often choose to avoid it. you don't know me or my palate. enjoy your pepper paste slurry.
c) in and out burger is, to quote every Korean I've ever met, "delicious"! |

yeah, i am a little twitchy today, though i don't think defensive is the word you were looking for. i was defending intelligent thought, but i'm sure you weren't meaning that when you used the word. anyways, i didn't get much sleep this morning and my tolerance for stupidity isn't very high right now so i apologize.
also, if you read carefully you might notice i wasn't defending korean food, i was calling out people who go to other places (not just korea) and say that their food is bad, blah blah blah. as for knowing you or your palate, believe me i'd rather not, and again you seem to miss the point of my original post with your pepper paste slurry comment. but i feel it's a waste of time to argue with someone like you. have a good day! |

Korean food is also at the bottom of my list, of all the (15 so far), countries I've lived in and traveled to.
No sure why the apologists get so defensive. |

I'm sorry to break this news to you but most jiggaes are made with either fish or pork broth as the base...sometimes beef bullion is used, so you've been enjoying quite a bit of meat and fish.

I don't understand what Californians see in In and Out. They're as bad as Koreans in this respect. The burger is above average for a fast food burger, but the fries just blow. They taste like chalk with oil running down the sides.
I'm not a huge fan of Korean food and I'll typically order the same 3-5 dishes anytime I'm out unless I'm heading to a restaurant for a specific dish. However, like most countries, there are always a few surprises and Korea has that as well. One of the best meals I've had was at a restaurant near Chuncheon that serves duck. You can get it several ways including having it stuffed and covered in clay and then cooked for hours. Or going to Andong and having the original Tchim Ddalk. Food is adventure and sometimes you have search it out.
Finally, if we're going to rate bad food landscapes, you can find one of the worst an easy 4-5 hour flight away. The Philippines have all the same advantages as the Thais, Malays, and Indonesians have with plentiful produce, but they manage to create food that is some of the most unappealing in the world...which is tremendously unfortunate because it is a great place to travel and explore. |
