Yes, it's worth it. With the private trackers sending files so ridiculously quickly, if you have the HDD space, use it. I just hold things for a few weeks to seed, then delete. I actually only have about 150 gigs of space between laptop and external, so I'm on a tight GB budget, but I still almost exclusively download x.264 mkv and the like.

Sometimes it gets a bit ridiculous, like the 18 GB NFL Playoff game in 1080i I just downloaded, but it looks orgasmic when you're used to watching sopcast streams.

In response to why get one when you can use your notebook:

Does your notebook have 500GBs? I know you can just buy an external drive and there you are...however, what if your tv isn't in the same room as your computer setup, or not close to it anyways?

If you see my setup, a computer in the lounge room can become very discrete, you don't even see it.

Also, some notebooks can hold dual 200GB 2.5" hard drives internally but that's not the norm. I have been using an external 500GB for my notebook and media player and it works without a glitch.

I think the only true way to appreciate 1080p movies is to have a projector that supports them. Projectors typically magnifies the pixels making the picture look more pixelated than TVs, but get a high res one and you'll appreciate the higher definition more.

HDTV divx is fine IMO but for eye candy movies like 300 and Beowulf I'd go for full HD.
