This is an age-old dispute, what with the millions that lived before the Koreans were even a nation. Such scripture in the bible points to the fact men have the law written on their hearts, meaning, if they've lived according to their good conscience they will thus be judged by this alone. They are not to blame.
The important fact to remember is that most humanity can seldom do this. Therefore, Jesuits and various missionaries were sent to Asia throughout history, perhaps introducing the gospel and spreading the good news.
In this case, it shows the importance of missionaries and those who were sent, and did go, to Korea, since it is now apparently 50% Christianized. |

| Good question, but I think it applies to everyone except the Jews. Why did God send Jesus specifically to the Jews? Why not the Irish or the vikings? Incidentally, according to Mormonism God did send Jesus to America, but that ended badly with the Natives (originally a tribe of Israel) being cursed with dark skin. |
You bring up a good point. Jesus, however, did save and reach out to Canaanites, Romans etc... You do know that one of Jesus's disciples was a Canaanite, and he was called Simon the Canaanite. Canaanites are not Jews, though they are related by blood and ancestry. The Jews did absorb the Canaanites they conquered. The Jews before Jesus obviously did not and could not believe in him.
As far as how the Catholic Church looks at it, it is up to God to determine if you're going to hell, but many Protestants of the Evangelical kind who dominate in Korea venture forth the opinion that if you don't declare Jesus to be your saviour then you unequivocally go to hell. This involves taking Jesus and the Bible literally and goes against the spirit of the Jesus who said "Man was not created for the Shabbat, the Shabbat was created for man". Too many Evangelicals in Korea and the US are too stuck into their literal approaches.
As far as Korean Christians approaching us, they believe it is their religious duty to preach to us... Evangelos (good news) is what they need to spread i.e. the Gospel. I can understand they want to save us from
Gehenna named after a hill in Jerusalem (Yerushalem) where people burned things.
I am not sure what Evangelicals think about pagans before them. Would they go to hell? They had no clue about Jesus. If they think so, then they are not following a God of love. This is not proper Christian doctrine.
I, frankly, am getting tired of being approached by Koreans trying to speak to me in English in order to preach. I assume they want to preach when they are taking too long to get to a certain point. As soon as someone has something that sounds prepared, I deal with them like a telemarketer. I don't want to be rude, and I just say I am not interested.
They are doing what they think is right, though it may be quite annoying at times, especially if you're in a hurry to meet someone...You then feel like the guy in Airplane who was bothered by the Hare Krishna person at the airport. |

I, personally wonder if there is a Hell. Sartre once said that life is Hell. For many, it is. In addition, many Christians have a knack of turning up the heat.
All I know is that God is loving and cares for everyone in the world. |
Nah, God is just using us for its entertainment and doesn't care one way or the other. |
God created hell for Satan and his angels. It was never intended to be for people. People end up going to hell because they choose to. |
Can you prove it? |
