What's scary is that even my youngest kids know what a "pervert" is. Which means they're quite able to manipulate someone into believing they were touched when they weren't only to get attention. It could potentially destroy an innocent person's reputation, even if proven innocent. All at the whim of a child.

I didn't know what a pervert was until I was in Grade six or so. I have students who are seven years old who were referring to the child murderer from Anyang as a "Pyeontae", which is scary on two counts: they actually know what happened (they're way too young to understand it so their parents shouldn't tell them IMHO), and secondly, they actually have a vague idea of what a "pervert" is.

Children need to be ignorant because they're children. It's part of the process. People need to quit cramming their heads with stuff they aren't ready to understand. That's why I don't let my younger kids talk about the Anyang murderer in my class, or anything related to it.

so your useless?

Great idea--let's learn from the Korean example for once and introduce similar legislation in the U.S. or at least life sentence without parole. As psychiatrists are quick to admit, once an offender, always an offender. I was doing a search for a place to live in the U.S. on city-data.com and was appalled by the sheer size of the sex offender population in even small cities in America. Of course, these include rapists and pedophiles, the latter incurable as well.

The new penalties are all well and good, but they won't matter a whit because the cops can't be bothered to get off their asses and catch these guys.

man come on!!
you speak like there are no crimes back home because the cops there are so good they have caught all the criminals!

He does have a good point. Just recently, a girl was dragged in an elevator and beaten by a guy who has a history of sexually assaulting kids (he spent 10 years in prison for it). The attempted kidnapping and assault was captured on the apartment complex' security cameras. The cops simply brushed it off when the girl said the guy smelled like alcohol.

And that's ALL the raging discussion in Korea these days. The police didn't do anything about it until Lee Myung Bak made a publicized visit to the Ilsan police department. He was upset that nothing had been done, and citizens are/were outraged. LMB scored some points with people on this. In any case, the police hauled the guy in within 5 hours.

Imagine the loss of face at that police department.

They deserved it, too. People are really horrified and freaked-out by that video of the girl being grabbed/beaten. Especially in light of the news of the two girls who were hacked to pieces recently.

I think the police are in for a long 5 or whatever years under LMB.

I saw a bunch of cops near a school in Ilsan. They seemed to have been doing their job. I greeted one of the cops. Obviously, crimes against anyone including children need to be acted upon and stopped. It seems there are more and more ills in societies that are increasingly fragmented. There is more violence and the like...
