It changes it completely. It it be only a plurality, then a majority do NOT feel that way. |
No, but if it is a plurality, then the largest group of cadets feeling a particular country is the enemy is the group considering the US to be that enemy. As I said, that's not much better than a majority feeling that way. |

This is possibly more than simply your token anti-Yankee feeling. After all, other foreigners from Ireland or Canada are not treated significantly better than Americans in Korea. Xenophobia is quite prevalent in the country. Add that to the desire to not want to see that the division of Korea was not the fault of the United States. It is good that 66% of Koreans don't think that way, but if 34% think that way then someone is brainwashing many of the youth to hate a country that saved them and that has long defended them during the Cold War. American soldiers died saving Korea, so this is unacceptable, and they should be remembered for what they did for this country. |

America also started the Vietnam War and forced the Soviets to invade Afghanistan in 1979. |
And the Canadians burnt the White House, don't forget. |

Great thread, catman, and yet another reason why I fervently believe we should pull every last soldier from this peninsula.
The majority of Koreans don't deserve our military support, and the financial backing of it. Enough is enough, I say.
When the oldest generation dies out, the war will be but a forgotten memory to most.
Screw 'em.
Shape up or ship out. |

This is the connection that interests me, too. Does South Korean nationalism necessarily entail antiAmericanism? If so, why? |
Many forms of nationalism are kicked up by the concept of an external enemy. Even in the USA, people are most patriotic when waging war. Canadians tend to define themselves as !Americans. We seem to take the most pride in our differences with the USA.
I read a similar survey but of Korean lawyers. They too have to identify Korea's main enemy and a similar % say "the USA". |

Well, hell. Many Americans believe that America's No. 1 enemy is other Americans.
At least that's the attitude of the Republican "If you ain't with us, yer agin us" Party.
Couldn't the Korean military be a bit more specific, and say their No. 1 enemy are American Republicans? After all, it's all their fault. |

First, let me say username is most appropo: you indeed don't know jack.
Second, the Korean War was first waged under the Truman Administration, which was Democratic.
Third, if you bothered to read even a small sampling of academic articles in political science published in the U.S. in decade you'd know that liberals have the same attitude in the cultural wars at home. |

Old Timers will probably tell you they were as angry at Clinton as they are at Bush. Clinton was always snubbing them for something or another. |
