I do get the point now that it was just one idiot guy. I was pretty emotional when I first saw it. It stirs things up and takes on a bigger importance. But it's not that bigger deal, right? Yet, if it affected me like that, how much more would the consequences be if it were shown on mainstream?
Hankyorei is a 'left' publication. It's mass, but it's not mainstream News.
World Daily, 세계일보, this is the first time I've ever heard of this publication. |
It was in fact covered in mainstream SBS and MBC news.
MBC news
SBS news

Singers and musicians appearing on TV are not allowed to curse nor dress in ways that don't conform to the KBS et al notion of appearance. That goes way above censorship - it's grooming.
This is what makes us complain that Korean music on TV 'all sounds the same.'
If a whole youth music culture is completely fabricated, how easy to skip a two minute news item? |
Of course, there is censorship on Korean TV. What public TV station in the world has none? You are right that you cannot curse all you want or you cannot strip naked on KBS, MBC, or SBS. We may not agree with all the codes they have but I do not believe that is some shocking unprecedented censorship. I think it's far-fetched to say the reason why similar-sounding Korean teeny pop music plays so much on Korean TV is such censorship. It seems you are linking moral censorship directly to political censorship in the following paragraph.

I just do not get this part. Do you believe there is a lot of political censorship in the Korean media in 2008? How can you even put "surely" in the bolded sentence? There's just so much anti-government information on TV and what not. Care to elaborate your point with concrete examples? |

If a woman hits you, particularly an older woman, you do not hit back. You only hit if you are in danger of real injury. A little slap you can barely feel from a woman and you think that justifies going to town on her like that little bastard did? Where were you brought up that you think that's fair? Hitting women is cowardly. |
