Are you talking about photography or cinematogrophy?
What is the difference?
I am guessing photography since all the ones you mentioned fit the bill.
After I wrote that, I was worried I got the terminology wrong... I basically meant what is shot/how it appears or what is actually photographed as opposed to camera work. Like, Magnolia and Boogie Nights are my two favorite movies, and the camera work is mindblowing (ditto Children of Men, for another example), but they don't strike me necessarily as 'visual' movies, like the incredibly gorgeous, trippy ones I listed. |

Anything by Zhang Yimou (House of Flying Daggers; Hero; etc).
There are many beautiful scenes in films by Kakeshi Kitano - and also many extremely violent ones, too! Definitely a master of many extremes. Films such as Dolls and Sonatine spring to mind. |

Sorry, but i think this is a really stupid movie.
hmmmm beautiful?? visually, hero is gorgeous (tho its ideology is questionable at best), the three colours trilogy - particularly blue - is stunning. another beautiful flick is pan's labyrinth, but i think my judgement is biased here because of how much i love the stories in it. same sort of thing with spirited away.
other films that i personally think are beautiful, but in the way i find some horrible things beautiful, are manufactured landscapes, bad boy bubby, and eraserhead. |
