Nope. Incheon, which is less than an hour by subway to Seoul. It's a decent area. Kind of like Brooklyn to Manhattan (Seoul being Manhattan).

I wasn't hired through EPIK, though. I used a recruiter that works directly with the board of education, so was able to check things out before signing anything.

I work in a hagwon. This is my second year and I don't have any gripes. My workload is easy and all my Korean co-teachers are friendly. Some days I only teach three fifty minute classes. The downside is the crappy vacation, but I'm not too big into traveling so I don't mind. I've always been paid on time and they're always doing their best to accommodate us. In fact, for the match on Thursday, our director is having a little get together for us.

once more, for those of you who seem to be missing it -

there are private elementary schools (maybe even private middle ) where English teachers are given smaller classes, smaller camps, more individual teaching is allowed, etc etc. these schools are growing in number and popularity with the Korean mothers which of course, have the most to say about education choices.

ask around, look for them, they offer a good option between hakwons and ps

I was intrigued by this idea and started looking for these jobs, but I can't seem to find any. Everytime I search for private elementary schools I get a ton of hits on hagwons. Do you have any suggestions as to how to go about finding these positions from across the world? Help would be much appreciated!

Boots on the ground, work of mouth, networking.

They do NOT advertise. They don't need to. They ask current staff to recommend someone
or more likely,
the staff who are planning to leave tell their friends who are planning to stay in Korea to apply.

I know that ALL of the jobs of this type that I am aware of were ALL filled this way.
