No...you are absolutely right...But then again it seems like most of the "foreigners" do it without the addition of any peer pressure. I must say that there sure a whole lot of "foreigners" that do it just because they like it....and they probably did it at home too! Gotta love the whole " if Billy jumped off a bridge" argument...makes me meiss me Mum, it does! |

| Hey big D- aren't you interested in seeing what other opportunities for foreigners are out there? I'm glad this guy posted. I never meet foreigners working for a legit company and I'm curious as to what's on the other side of the rainbow...ignore the post if it bothers you...are you upset that he posted it in the job section instead of general? |

| If you're not a teacher then why the hell are you posting on eslcafe? I dont care where u work or that yu probably make more money than me and that you obviously have better working conditions than most of us, this is an ESL website, no one cares where you work. |

FYI- not every expat working in Korea is an "English" teacher. And not all the posters on this site teach- quite a few have other employment as well. |

| I did read the whole thread thank you very much, I read nothing about anyone asking that guy to post something not even close to being related to the ESL industry or teaching. He sounds like an arogant jackass if you ask me. Envy? Thats a laugh, why would I be about a guy who couldnt find a real job in his own country so he came here and who's going to die from liver damage next week. |
Why do you want to read about people getting:
a) screwed over by directors/supervisors/owners?
b) people's relationships with korean guys/gals?
c) the fog of crap that is known as the off topic forum?
People read this site for something to do, and hopefully to learn something. I personally get tired of a new director who screwed someone every week. Or the guy who couldn't or could score. Or people not searching the site and asking questions that get raised a few times a month.
Lush gives a good insight into WORKING in Korea in a field other than ESL.
I like his stories, I don't think he comes across as anything more than a lucky guy who is willing to share a bit. Most lucky people are afraid of their jobs getting snagged from under them and so they won't talk about their jobs. |

| Im here because I liked it my first year and made the mistake of coming back. IM sure lush's company is just corupt and rediculous as all the other industries in Korea. I doubt many foreigners would get hired here as a business person, they would hire a korean first, same as canadian trying to get hired in the US, they take americans first because it's easier. Working in korea is like walking into the 1950's, dont care what industry it is here, most employees are treated bad, and yeah Im looking forward to going home and paying rent and a bit higher tax to be treated like a normal human being and actually respect my boss and co-workers |

Employers in North America treat their workers with respect? Well, I guess they will respect you for a moment as they tell you about having to let you go due to downsizing. |

I think if you are not a foreigner working for a Korean company, it is possible you don't know how we are treated. Not all of us are English teachers, but it is nice to keep in touch with other expatriots and have conversations in English once in a while. Please do not try to deny us that priviledge. I happen to be very proud of the company I work for. I know the CEO is trying hard. Sure the workers, work long hours, but they are treated well. That is Korean business. It is necessary to compete in this country. |
