The region change isn't 'mainstream' in the sense that console modding in itself isn't really mainstream, but it is not at all difficult or dangerous. (the dangerous part is the physical modding itself) Actually, the link I posted gives a really convoluted and difficult method of doing the process. I used a small application that did it all for me. (I'll try to find a link to that app). The important thing is you need to install the Homebrew Channel. Then, place the region changer application on an sd card and run that. It asks you what you want to change. (Menu language, region, etc.). Bam, you're done. I did it and my system is now, for all intents and purposes, an American system. My copy of Super Mario Galaxy (USA) works fine, games that used to default to Japanese language now play in English, all the settings menus are English, and I connect to the American Shop Channel.
If you have a Korean (or Japanese) modded system, there is really no reason not to do this.
I'll try to find that link...
Here's a start:

Aha! I was wondering it that was possible. A simple click and change sounds OK. Is there still a chance of bricking your console with this program though? I haven't bought a wii yet. My wife wouldn't be too impressed if I stuff it up the first week we have it. |

Well, when I did it, it was simple. Just ran the program, entered my desired settings, and changed. I may have just been lucky though. The websites for AnyRegion Changer stress that a brick is possible if you don't use the application properly. Also, it seems Nintendo's latest updates have been messing with the hacker's work so things aren't as easy any more.
I'd recommend doing a lot of research and make sure you know what you are doing before you do it. Things are always changing and what I did a month ago may be more difficult now. It is definitely possible, though, and I would say worth it. |

I'm still trying to figure out if there's a way to play burned gamecube games on a modded Korean Wii. Korean Wiis are the only Wiis not backward compatible with gamecube since GC was never released here. Can a modchip make it possible to play GC games or is there actual missing hardware that renders it impossible? |

If anyone's wondering, I bought a modded Korean Wii and cube games are no problem. They can be loaded with GeckoOS and work great. I guess Nintendo only removed the software in the Korean Wii because all the gamecube controller and memory card ports are still there and functioning.
I'm also using the GeckoOS region free loader for burned non-Korean games. I'm assuming I could bypass this by using RegionFrii on an ISO and burning a game myself. |

Anyone tried the "Twilight Hack" on a Korean Wii? It would be nice to softmod these things. |

Gamer's alley. Coming out of Yongsan station, you walk this long corridor, through a building and end up about a block away from the station. There should be a large parking area near you. Wander around a bit until you see a sh*t-pile of kiosks full of gaming systems.
Clear as mud, eh? |

I'm sort of hijacking this thread...
First, with the Anyregion changer, where do you put the files in your SD card? I mean, do you create a new folder "apps" then bury the file in it, or directly put the files in the root card? Currently, HBC opens and doesn't see anything on the SD card.
My second problem has to do with WIFI connections, in that my neighbors WIFI are showing up on my Internet connection, but not my own. Anyone know how to work around this? I already tried the neighbors connections, but my neighbors have evidently smartened up to people stealing their bandwidth/ |

I must be one of the short-bus kids...
I have the Japanese Wii, running 3.1J. I just can't get the Homebrew channel to read my SD card. |

1. To use, you must have a folder on your mem card called 'apps'
2. Put an 'AnyRegionChanger' folder in that folder.
3. Then, put the files from the AnyRegionChanger zip in that folder and rename 'Anyregionchanger1.1.dol' to 'boot.dol'
4. After that, just boot up the homebrew channel and Anyregionchanger should appear in your list. |

So I bricked my Wii by updating it. Now it shows an English health warning hazard and asks me to press A ... then nada.
There must be something I could do. Any ideas? Thanks. |
