I'm not too concerned about actor chemistry. It looks like it was very well cast.
What worries me is seeing Star Trek go from science fiction to plain old action/space opera. |
dude, but i mean... shatner/nimoy/kelley.... thats some of the greatest actor chemistry ever. these guys... to be honest, i dont know who they are and cant guess on how they can match the originals. im just throwing it out there that it has the potential to be very disappointing on that particular level.
but youre right about changing it from philosophy sci-fi exploration into action movie... but i have a feeling we might not be disappointed in that department. i hope. |

I can still recite whole episodes of TOS, was an avid fan of TNG, but lost interest with Deep Throat Nine.
What bothers me most about this movie is the casting. I'm really not going to even attempt to watch what appears to be "90210" in space.
I predict a massive failure: budget ratio. The franchise is basically on it's last legs. |

It doesn't have to be. But the geniuses running things now will probably lead it to it's grave. |

I was so thoroughly confused by the first 30-45 seconds of that trailer. I thought someone had uploaded a trailer for "Transformers 2" and labeled it as "Star Trek" instead.
As for the rest of it. "Meh" is all I can say. Doesn't seem overly exciting, but maybe I'm burned out by the crappy "Star Trek" movies now. Although J.J Abrams directing it does make me sort of excited. |
I'll say this about the trailer. IF if do watch a movie trailer, I'll watch it once and leave it at that. BUT I've watched this one multiple times and still get a kick out of it. I even went to the film's website which is even more unusual for me. I guess it has a bit to do with nostalgia as a pimplefacedpreteen watching the orignal series.
As far as all these chain-movies it can't be any worse that the new Bond flick. So, yea, I guess I'm pretty stoked. |

Some of the best trek moments ever are in DS9. Colm Meaney had a much more prominent role and is one of the better trek actors. |

| I too was a bit confused at first. Building a star ship on the ground? Err. But I loved seeing the old style shuttle craft. It could be good. |

Many of the Trek actors went over to Stargate Atlantis. |

The Original Enterprise was built IN San Francisco. It says so on the dedication plaque. As opposed to San Francisco Fleet Yards which orbit earth. |

Even if canonical, it's still requiring one to make a great leap in logic when anything that size would clearly be built in space. |

Yeah but it is the 23rd Century AND Roddenberry said it was built on Earth. |

Did he ever explain how it left the ground and achieved orbit in one piece? |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(NCC-1701)#New_Star_Trek_film
| Quote: |
| According to The Making of Star Trek by Gene Roddenberry and Stephen E. Whitfield, the components of the Enterprise were built at the San Francisco Navy Yards and the vessel itself was constructed in space. The film's co-writer, Roberto Orci, acknowledged depicting the Enterprise being built on Earth would cause debates among fans regarding canon. Explaining that the concept came from their own creative license and the precedent set in Star Trek novels, he said that the idea that some things have to be constructed in space is normally associated with "flimsy" objects which have to be delicately assembled and would not normally be required to enter a gravity well. He said that this did not apply to the Enterprise because of the artificial gravity employed on the ship and its requirement for sustaining warp speed, and therefore the calibration of the ship's machinery would be best done in the exact gravity well which is to be simulated. |
According to wiki, it is not canon to depict it being built on earth. |
