Um, if anyone happens to be going to Yongsan or Technomart this weekend, I'm curious to know how much a Saehan F-80 or F-60 "MP-Man"(128MB onboard) is going for these days... thanks a bunch.
MP F-80
MP-F60
I've been using an F-35 for the last 5 years and have been extremely happy with it (except for the headphones) and the better-half is heading to Korea for Sollal- if the price is right a new MP man will be my Valentines Day present.
I've been looking around the local stores for a new flash mp player (RCA, Blue Sonic Rio; I-River flash players have no memory expansion slot!! ) and while they're not too bad I'm hoping she might be able to find a deal on the Saehan in Korea- they don't export to Canada, just to Europe (don't know about the US). |

Doe anyone know the name of the USB connection cable?
I tried to buy one the other day and the guy in the shop said there were no firewire - USB connection cables that exist.
He said I wouldn't find one anywhere. I am computer illerate so have no idea...
Also do all laptops and new PCs come with the firewire plug?
Thanks for your help,

"USB cable" Well, not really- see below:
USB is USB and Firewire is firewire (no, actually it's IEEE1394 but anyway..) and there is no 'crossover cable' between the two. All pcs now come with USB 1.1 or 2.0 (backwards compatible) but not all pcs have firewire (but many do).
USB is used for a wide variety of hardware while firewire is usually reserved for video applications but you can also find firewire external hard drives and [I believe] digital cameras using it.
While there is a standard USB cable for plugging a USB hub into a pc, there are a couple of different connectors (or ends, plugs, or whatever you want to call them) for plugging peripherals into a pc.
You need to figure out (and explain to the sales person) exactly what it is you want to plug into a pc. Is it a firewire DV camcorder? a USB MP3player? A firewire external drive?
In short, you need to bring whatever device you have that you want to connect with you and show it to the sales person- if you can't tell them what you want they can't sell it to you. |

If you're talking about the cable for an iPod, you'll need the iPod Dock Connector to FireWire and USB 2.0 Cable(Windows PC only)
See it, and a bunch of other accessories, on this page. |

Wild, syncing via USB and charging via firewire- that sounds like an innovative concept!

For Windows users, the Dock Connector to USB 2.0 + FireWire cable is available for syncing via USB 2.0* and charging via FireWire. (Not compatible with iPod mini.) |

Hey, thanks a bunch J5, that's some great info; My wife was checking out some other Korean shopping website and the prices they were asking were just ridiculous. They appeared to be selling import stuff and were selling I-River 256MB for something like 300,000. |

Yikes! If you're considering spending that much (not that it sounds like you want to), you may as well go all the way and drop 407,000 on a 15GB iPod. |

At those prices, you're right!
But as I've already mentioned I'm in the market for a flash player rather than a HD-based one.
Thanks to J5 I checked out omi.co and the MPIO FD-100 128MB is defintetely shaping up to be a strong contender at the equivalent of $138 CDN, a great price. If my wife can find it or an MPIO FL-100 cheaper at an electronics market in Seoul or Bucheon then it would be a fantastic buy.
For example BestBuy (no I've never bought anything there but it did have the best selection and price for MP3 players in my area) is selling RCA and Rio 128MB for about $130 CDN, and that's before tax and these models look flimsy and don't have half the features that the Saehan and MPIO models have. |

in regards to mp3 players I bought a Zillion 256MB with a voice recorder and fm reciever for 185,000 won at Yongsan so I could listen to my music at the gym and on the plane etc, instead of that korean crap. Not a good idea, the battery cover now has broken 3 times and now am trying to get rid of it. First time the store I bought it from replaced it, second time i sent it to the manufacturer and they replaced it (company is Digital Square based here in Korea), this time I emailed them and haven't heard anything yet . I only used it while on the treadmill so i wasn't putting it through a rough treatment.
Also the battery stunk, a rechargable one that according to the manual is supposed to last 8-9 hours. Best I could get was 4 hours.
So now I bought a rio cali for $179 while in the US. Its designed for working out and comes with a belt clip and a clip for the gym, its also designed for working out. Battery life is supposed to be 18 hours on a single AAA battery. It also has an expansion slot so you can put another 512 MB card. It doesn't have a voice recorder but thats not a big deal for me.
Lets hope this is the end of it. |

For those in the market for a top of the line Ipod, have you considered a PDA? For the about price of a top Ipod you could get a PDA that plays games, music, has a digital camera plus all the other things PDAs do.. |
