Vietnamese. It's just not pretty.

I don't like the sound of Taiwanese unless it's in song. I heart Jay Chou.
I think Cantonese spoken by a man with a nice voice is such a turn on.
I also love the sound of a nice Irish lad Wink
And Brazilian Portuguese is super pretty when spoken by a woman.

man too.

Brazilian Portuguese is an incredibly enticing language. I learned Spanish because it's more practical (and will enable me to learn Portuguese much faster) but I have to admit that Portuguese and especially brazilian portuguese is the bomb!

I think Russian sounds cool too.

out of European languages (not being familiar with finnish and estonian, etc) I'd have to say that German is definitely the most 'grating'.. very harsh and unpleasant sounding.

Shortland Street, eh? Jesus, that's a blast from the past.

Korean is the most annoying language I've ever heard, but strangely enough it took me over 2 years to start to hate it. Before that I studied it quite enthusiastically.

Korean isn't ugly as such, but it's incredibly annoying for the reasons already given by others.

I thought Cantonese was hideous when I overheard that in Hong Kong, too, I'm afraid.

"jodel" no es jodel , es JODER
"puelto rico" no es puelto rico, pero PUERTO RICO.

Most annoying language to listen to, and forget trying to learn for non-native is VIETNAMESE by far as I have experienced so far. A lot of air gulping sounds. I don't consider Chinese a romance language but no problem watching the martial arts movies. Shocked

Cantonese and Veitnamese are so very close in sound. Both have always been the most grating when it comes to sound and pitch. Austrailian is tiring.

I had a cute female boss (very cute) that spoke cantonese like a 5 year old would, very cute but funny to listen to.

I find when women speak it, any language sounds better.

Best languages to listen to:

Japanese and Arabic.

irish is the most annoying language in the world.

Its only ever spoken as

a) a statement of pointless defiance

or

b) some kind of pathetic superiority complex

Too guttural for my tastes. Also, the actual vocab is limited/incredibly repetitive. It really does show that they haven't had much contact with the outside world until just a while ago. How many times this winter did I hear my manager mutter "cold...ah...cold. Cold". Just once I'd have liked for some korean version of "freezing" or "[mod edit] freezing" or "colder than a witches tit". Something other than the same damned word 800 times a day.

When your proficiency in a language is limited to
"An-nyeong-ha-seyo!"
and
"kam-sa-ham-ni-da!"
that's probably all you can pick up.

ignorant fool.

I think any language has the propensity to grate on the ears. So, a person with pleasant intonation will make their language sound wonderful.

I have a brother in law, a Korean man, who is like he went to a finishing school. He has a very pleasant voice - always calm.
Sometimes women strike me that I ask them if they are singers as they have very smooth voices.

I think it depends on the person. And the situation.

I have to say that Korean can be, more than any I have heard, a bit monotone.
But, there are some lilts that make it thru the flatness.
Interrogatives for example aren't meant to go up in pitch at the end.

PS: I agree with the sentiments above. Could be your boss is accomodating you, or, he might be a bit of a dunce. Not everyone is articulate.
Korean has sufficient nuances in vocab. You've just gotta know them. The thoughts are there. As for 'freezing cold,' sure, heard mutterings like that a few times.
Of course, English has a lot more vocab to choose from, being a mix of Old German, Scandinavian, Latin, Norman French ... So, you've got 'freezing' being a composite of two languages and 'cold' an older word straight up possibly Germanic. (Just a guess as an example.)

But the Korean language is adequate for expressing all the feelings and factors of life.

For me, the worst langauge is the provincial Kiwi accent - where drawn-out rises in intonation at the end of questions sound terrible.

I don't like Tagalog...though I'd never tell my Filipino friends. Smile It's hard to express how it makes me feel but it's a queasy feeling. As for Korean, I've always liked it. I like the simplicity and the intonations give it a pleasing air. But being exposed to it for a long time without understanding most of it can make a person start to dislike it and criticize it. I'm reaching that stage now.

I really hate the attempts to be low-key NZ eg Lynn of Tawa-whenever she's interviewed she then puts on an equally affected RP accent.

Teenage NZ accents grate me too, that and the 10 word vocab (sweet, gay, shame etc)

Old people NZ accents with the whistle (eg Richard Hadlee, but more so his father)

Those very strong residual Scottish brogues in Southland (even though I grew up there)

What else.....Ocker, Scouser come to mind.
