I've always wondered who exactly gets hired in Japan. For example you'd find most teachers white and a few Kyopos and still less blacks in Korea.Do most institutions in Japan only hire whites or are there Japanese-Americans teaching there as well?Or how about other non-whites?

My board of education has about 11 foreign English teachers working for them.

Here is a breakdown of the nationalities.

1 Canadian
2 Australians (one is ethnically Chinese)
1 Brit
1 Japanese-American
1 Nigerian
1 Cameroonian (is that right Confused )
1 French
1 Polish
2 New Zealanders

7 of 11 are visibly white and 4 of 11 speak English as a second language.

My BOE is a little unusual in that they actually want ethnic diversity. Kind of like affirmative action. However, it is being repeated in other BOE's as well.

As for private schools, I have seen and met a lot of non white teachers, but white teachers definately make up the majority.

If you are not too old for Korea, then you can't be too old for Japan.

What is the problem with the word "jap" anyways.

I harbour no racist thoughts or attitudes when I say 'jap'

So it seems to me "you" are making an issue out of it.

My girlfriend is jap and I use the word jap all the time - with no racist intentions. In fact, I LOVE japan and it's culture and have spent almost 5 years living there and studying japanese.

Lighten up people - you seem as if you're looking for an 'opportunity' to label someone as ebing 'Un-P.C.'

Agreed! But all these women, hell, all women except jerks (which fortunately are few) get my thunbs up!

(I'm sure they will all say, thanks jaj for your approval Laughing )

Some Japanese women are fabulous!

When I was in Taiwan there was channel called Channel Z and it reminded me of the lack of life I had. They had this show called "Bikini" all in Japanese, as it was 15-20 gorgeous Japanese girls sitting around in bikinis talking about god knows what and also cruising around the city (probably Tokyo) and acting weird....

But it was fascinating as well as a source of fantasy. (yes I already know I have no real life... no need to add salt....)

Thai women... YES! Saw so many beautiful women there it nearly broke my heart.

But Korea still does it to me too. Only the culture seems harder to feel right in.

Don't know about Japan. Could be cool. Maybe. Question

TECO,

How long have you been in BKK? And you have a Japanese girlfriend? With you now?

All the best,

Jaj Very Happy

By the way, I liked Thailand so much I may return later despite the low pay or whatever. If you are still there i'd be happy to say hello. Very Happy

Hi - yeah, the trick is to work in one of the 'have' countries and take your holidays in the Philippines or Thailand.

Yeah, my jap girlfriendi will be with me in a few days. We've made abut 11 trips to Thailand over the last few years. I usyually come 4 times a year to Thailand. Being stationed in Taiwan makes it only a 3 hour flight. I love it!

The women in Thailand are really, really nice! But my Jap girlfriend is really hot too and really nice - so I've looked but not touched - LOL!!

Asian women are Amazing.

North American women ruin my day almost when I see them now. Cannot stand them. And most of the ones I've met in the EFL profession are absolute 'head cases.'

now being single again, who knows?

Ok, let me sum up this thread:
Korea is better for men who are novices at hunting.
Japan is better for men who don't know how to hunt, or are lazy.
Japan is great for people who want to date girls the same age as Rapier's avatar.
It seems to be encouraged there.
Any more questions? I think I summed it up quite nicely, and I'm female.

Really? I'm a North American women, but thankfully from the Southern US, where most men are handsome gentlemen, and hold open doors for us beautiful ladies, who like to pamper these handsome men. Laughing
You Canadian men don't know what your missing out on. If I were a Canadian woman, I would be a lesbian....no, I'm not into girls, but Canadian men...well, anyway....
I think that Western people don't mate together in Asia because everyone is so pasty pale...the schools prefer it that way
