Neoliberalism (commercial, republican or sociological variants) also uses the word socialism to mean anything other than 100% free-market economy.

Eh, Kuros? I don't get you.

Ontheway, I take your point, but I read the article as saying that, in Dubai, the government and the Emerati are one and the same. Nearly all other people in Dubai are expats and (presumably) unable to vote.

Thus, it makes little difference that the companies are owned by the "government", since the government are also the ruling class.

At the risk of derailing this thread, don't you think that libertarianism (and all economic rationalism, Chicago school etc) goes against basic human nature? i.e homo sapiens are successful because they help each other, are empathetic, and work collectively.

Yes, that's true in small family groups. But it's been well shown that the larger and less personal the 'collective', the more open it is to abusers and slackers. This is one of the reasons why a social safety net works better in some countries than others.

The trick to our future prosperity as a species would be to view the whole race, and indeed all life on this planet as part of the family group. But that would seem impossible without a rewriting of our DNA.

Ah, I see. Very interesting.

But I don't think that it would require DNA revisions, just some education. I think educated people are a lot less racist, bigoted and nationalist than uneducated people aren't they?

Well, maybe education and a decent mass media. I can't see us being one big happy family if we get our news from multinational corporations

But more Johan Hari (sp?) articles would help

Jesus, anyone who thinks Dubai is a socialist state and Sweden is a capitalist one, has his head so far up his back-side it would require a massive engineering vehicle to pry it out.
