I don't know if I would call it a total failure since I believe any dialogue is better than none at all. However, no serious gains were made an NK is as much of a threat now then they've been since the Cold War.
Ironic that I post this thread just days before Roh killed himself. Sunshine diplomacy is definitely finished for now. |

Kaesong was a good idea, the only way the situation is ever going to end is if the NK people see for themselves what a con their system is. Sanctions didn't work for Cuba, Burma or Zimbabwe, indeed I think they just made those dictatorships more stubborn. However the 'window onto the world' or whatever you want to call it should come from the Chinese side, they've had great success promoting free trade and have even been able to keep their system of government doing it. They would also be a bit more full on in enforcing the opening up of NK.
Although the ROK/US armies would win any war easily, given the proximinity of the two armies I think loss of life on the ROK/US side would be unavoidable, whilst the number might be small I don't think it would be politically feasable so soon after Iraq. I certainly wouldn't call for military action if I lived a mere 70 km from the DMZ! |

Very good points
If people ever read any articles about Kim Jung-Il, they said pretty much the same things:
1, Kim Jung-Il watches lots of movies ( he owns >200,000 tapes) and is almost professional in movie industry.
2, He likes Pizza and Hennessy.
3, He is not even close to be stupid, actually he thinks quickly n knows a lot about other countries, he also studies other leaders.
4, He reads news and articles about himself, and he knows people hate him, but he thinks it a proof that he is right.
5, The Russian president's representative to the far eastern federal district (khabarovsk) says: Kim is open to pursuasion but not to coersion, he gets tough when he sees people are antagonistic to him.
